Coach: SA or LH (both A346) to CPT

Which is better? I know LH can be 'snug' in coach, but I have no experience with SA international. I know that their domestic seat product is quite decent though.

Option would be 50K upgrade on LH from H class to Business using LH miles.

Long trip, but have done in SA coach and is quite OK, especially 2 out of 3 times I did this it was pretty empty and I had 4 seats. Have not done this segment on LH coach but did recently fly FRA-DXB in coach and was shocked to see not even individual LCD screen to watch movie. First time I flew LH outside Europe and really basic and very grey, and won't fly them again. SA seems better to me. Upgrade on LH however of course preferred.

LH 346 and 333 aircraft now have AVOD IFE to soften the pain of the 31 inch pitch.

I would say the clincher is that SA offers 33"-34" in coach v LH 31". They both have PTV so that is no different.

I see in the LH Timetable that LH576 FRA-CPT will be discontinued 3/28. Is that seasonal or is that permanent?

SA wins hands down, especially in coach. LH longhaul eco is pain, SA is very bearable.

Cheers,
Torsten

Thanks. I'm avoiding the transit through JNB otherwise LX would be a contender.

Concur with everyone here. Seat pitch in SA is 33-34", which makes a big difference. IFE is fine (AVOD) (not a big deal for me as I tend to sleep, in Y with the help of a 'Somnil' )
I did CPT / LHR and back in Y 2 weeks ago. First time in 4 years a longhaul in the back. Not fun, but bearable. It does remind you why you travel normally in C though !

But going through JNB would give you a chance to pick up the bag they 'lost' for you in early January

Totally agree. Have done SFO-MUC on the 346. A very MISERABLE experience. Avoid at all cost. I have never flown SA, but I have a hard time believing that they can come with something worse than LH.

We experienced the same horrible flight! To add to the disgrace, I flew the outbound in the middle seat of the middle row! Just awful!
