Air NZ is the only *A carrier flying to French Polynesia. There are serveral connections from AKL per week and getting to Auckland is easy both from North America and Asia. I will be flying there on a C Award ticket in August.

Previously you used to be able to fly PPT-LAX on Air New Zealand, but the route was suspended. Now the only option is to fly via AKL.
If you're based in North America you could fly LAX-RAR (operated by Air New Zealand) and then connect to RAR-PPT (roughly 90 mins flight time) on Air Tahiti.

Just came home from BOB. Great place
We flew AKL-PPT on NZ - and then I purchased PPT-BOB-PPT tickets on Air Tahiti on their homepage. Around USD 250 IIRC return.
NZ have to weekly flights into PPT from AKL - one arrives early friday morning, the other saturday afternoon (IIRC).
Great place - enjoy

I like the LAX - RAR idea, then fly back to the US PPT - AKL - SFO/LAX.
Lets you see the Cook Islands, and avoids backtracking on the initial flights.
Air NZ still flies into SFO, yes?

True. We were on an award stay at the Interconti Moana, which is very nice, and ended up spending USD 500 per day on meals etc. for two adults and two children. Ooops. But worth it

Same is the issue for Maldives. Two night award at Conrad requires 80K HH points, but one needs to pay an overnight in Male (as flight connections aren't good), air transfer to the resort @ 300 USD RT.
Of course, when you get to the resort, food also must be purchased...
I wonder if Conrad Maldives gives free breakfast as part of Diamond benefit.

Interesting. I can get award flights to PPT, assuming it's available and award rooms in Bora Bora, but I guess these vacation destinations will reach your pockets in many other ways.
