In flight Air show program missing

Hi

I really like the air show program that display where the airplane is currently. It makes the flying less claustrophic and I know how far it is left to go. Of course I only need the air show in between movies.

However it is my feeling that the air show is slowly disappearing. Here is my experience.

Lufthansa economy class:
LH used to show the air show when ever there was nothing else on the TV. Between movies or before landing. Basically when ever there was no movie showing. On my last flights with LH (FRA-NRT) it is my feeling that LH just keep the TV off instead of showing the air show.

US airways economy class 330:
Basically the have no air show. The IFE do have all possible channels, but no air show.
Also the domestic US 321 didn't show the air show between movies.

United 767, and 777 on LAX-HNL economy
No air show what so ever.

Flying SAS, Thai, ANA, CO, Delta, Quantas they all got air show between movies. But I have not flown with them sine 2005.

Do you also miss air show? PLEASE turn on the air show between movies.

I noticed this on Air Canada, Calgary-LHR last week. Hadn't flown with them recently, so didn't see a pattern. I too like to check from time to time, and I'm sure the cabin staff like it too - reduces the number of questions, for one thing. However, I didn't even manage to watch the movie due to the miserable size of the screen, (no seat-back screen either) and other distractions that I have posted elsewhere.

With the airlines moving to AVOD, the airshow is available as a separate feed. The LH 333 and 346 are converting to AVOD in Y by April and as such will have their personal Airshow in all seats. SK already has this and OS has a separate channel with the airshow.

Why not? There is even a separate button "Map".

glad to hear that LH is upgrading...

I flew Turkish and they had a very funky air show. Making all kinds of virtual simulations on the flight path. That was maybe only cool for a freak like me. But if the slow down the simulation a little bit, possible it is good.

On the other side to much animation on screens around you is also not the best.

Question: US airways have their IFE, is air show so expensive that they opted out?

Is LH going to add out side camera?

thx

Nope. LH is very concious on how much weight they carry and how many thing they need to maintain. The camera didn't make the cut of cost vs benefit. Should come with the A380 though. The 346 also has a tail camera: that would be neat to see on the IFE

As for the animations you saw, check out Rockwell Collins website:

http://www.rockwellcollins.com/produ...200/index.html

Its must have been the Airshow 4200 instead of the more common 420?
