RTW: changing the date of 1st segment
I'm having a brain cramp on this:
Could someone please confirm that I can change the date/time (but not routing) of the first segment of an ex-Japan FRWSTARn without incurring a fee? For some reason, I had it in my head that I couldn't change the dates of the first segment (or any segment through the 1st intercontinental segment). After re-reading the rules a few dozen times, it looks like I certainly can change the dates, at least up until the ticketing deadline.

- If the ticket is already issued, but you are not past the ticketing deadline, you can change the first international flight (including any connecting flights to your first international flight). If a reissue of the ticket is not neccessary, the change is free of charge. A simple date change would not cause a reissue, but for example a change from NH to SQ on NRT-LAX would. If a reissue is needed, a fee of $125 applies.

With due respect to the last poster, all of those rules changed some time ago. There used to be different rules for the scenario pending country/regioin of origin but the rule is now a single one, classed as Worldwide, and is a very liberal one.
For journeys commencing Worldwide on Star 1/2/3, you can make any sort of changes at any time *before* travel has started, even after ticketing. You still can't make any changes to segments up to and including the first International/Intercontinental segment once your journey has started though.
There should be no reissue fee if journey has not started and your ticket requires reissue, however some agents/airlines will charge their ticket reissue or service fees.
The Star Special/Starlite still has change restrictions based on ticketing deadlines, but they no longer apply on the 1/2/3 products.

The rules quoted by ACflyerDE have been introduced with the new rules 01JUL07, before all changes before departure were permitted as stated by Al B: old rules, no longer valid
