Award flight availability

Pls excuse ignorant question but although I've travelled all my life, much remains a mystery - and long may it continue.

I'm looking to get an awards seat LHR - LAX (hopefully with ANZ) over Xmas but see only UA have availability over on ANA seat finder. Would it be the case that ANZ is sold out for that particular period, or do airlines release further seats as the year goes on?

It is definitely possible that some seats will open up on NZ, but I would say it's quite unlikely that it will happen, given that it's a very popular route. I would take the sure bet and go with UA, or maybe take a different route. With what airline are you trying to redeem your miles?

Christmas is a peak period so quite possibly no more awards (especially in business class).

If you are using UA mileage plus miles be aware UA will not allow award booking on NZ for LAX-LHR (it forces you to use UA).

Thanks folks

I don't really mind who I go with but ANZ business looks very nice, UA first is available though, but people don't seem too keen on this? Any opinions?

I'd rather go direct but LH from FRA sounds good maybe next time.

I enjoy UA Int'l F. Sure, the soft product may not compare to other non-US airlines, but I find the seat extremely comfortable for sitting and sleeping. I also usually get great crews and overall have a great experience. I guess it all depends what you're used to

You might want to consider AC via YYZ. AC is now flying new 777's with new flat seats.

If you have the miles to go F, connecting through FRA gives you access to LH's FCT - a huge plus. (Went through the FCT yesterday for the first time - ^ ^)

Be sure to allow yourself a decent connection time in FRA - more time is better with the FCT.

But more time at your destination is even better.
