Help me get from EDI-PER on *A

Looks like I might be going to a wedding next March/April in Oz.

Would anyone like to suggest the best way for me to get there. I think I'll try and spend 3 weeks over there so my date of travel is flexible.

1 - 3 of us going, myself, my wife and my son who will be 4.
2 - I doubt I will be able to pay for anything other than cheapo economy tickets.
3 - I currently have 60k BMI destination. With my upcoming flights and applying for a CC or two I could get to about 110k.

I'm currently BD*S but expect to be BD*G when the trip actually comes around.

So, who would you suggest the best airline is for the route in economy?

Any suggestions?

LL

I am not a bmi specialist, but I doubt you 110k miles will be enough even for a cash & miles award for three to Australia. But you better ask that in the bmi forum. If you decide to go down this route, try to get a few more miles and go business class.

Regarding your *A options to PER, you only have three: SQ from SIN, TG from BKK and SA from JNB. I would exclude the last one as it is a significant detour.

So, you now only need to find a carrier from Europe to SIN or BKK, of which there are plenty.

...and NZ from AKL (also a detour, but still a *A into PER)

Miles and Cash from the UK to Australia will cost 50000 + 340 + taxes each. I think that is extremely poor value for money and would urge you not to use your miles for this trip.

Several airlines run some good economy deals to Australia and you should be able to find fares for around 600. To be honest, this is only marginally more expensive than the total amount payable for the Miles and Cash redemption.

If your destination was east coast Australia I'd take NZ for their great economy product. For PER however, going via AKL is a long detour. Take SQ - fairly direct route and reasonable product.

Thanks for the info.

I'll take a look around and see what I can find.

No need to book yet unless a mistake-fare appears. Mar-April is a low-ish season for which the "special" fares tend to appear in mid-to-late January.

SIN-PER is a short 4-hour hop very do-able in SQ or QF economy. With a 4-year old it may be better to look for a flight with several stops and keep him running up and down the corridors during each stop! I like OS via VIE which knocks 2 hours off the long Asian leg.

Don't know if there's any way to upgrade that long sector on eg LX/LH/OS with your BMI miles...

...or even buy-up eg just now MH has a 780 C-class fare between DBX and KUL see here

As you stumble exhausted into Perth ready for 12 hours sleep, your son will just be waking up ready for another energetic day.

If you travel via Manchester instead of Heathrow, there are often more options on varying the legs (or, from memory, doing business in 1 direction). BD probably will get you to either?

If you have a 4 yo, i would suggest going via SQ. They are great with kids plus there are 3 flights a day SIN-PER
