GRU-AKL help

Hi all,

does anybody have a good suggestion on how to get from GRU to AKL on *A? Seems like the worst route for *A....

Thanks for your help!

unfortunately, only two airlines fly from south america to australasia nonstop- lan chile and aerolineas argentinas.

you can go the other way, though- SAA GRU-JNB-PER and NZ PER-AKL. Hell of a trip, though. GRU-ORD-LAX-AKL is only 300 miles longer. Or you could try going through europe (GRU-FRA-SIN-AKL), but that's a hell of a lot longer.

If you're buying, I'd bite the bullet and fly LAN GRU-SCL-AKL. If you're redeeming, then you have to pick your poison (I'd probably take GRU-JNB-PER-AKL over flying UA and subjecting myself to US customs and immigration).

I haven't checked but supposedly NZ & SA schedules are coordinated to allow the connection between South Africa and NZ.

I did it once through LAX using (at the time) RG and NZ, but I included PPT as well to break the trip. It was quite fun.

I'd dare say it's the SA code on QF over SYD that allows the connection to NZ - the PER connections are non-existant westbound (18 hour overnight required) and very lengthy eastbound - 0920 arrival from JNB, 1900 departure to AKL.
That particular GRU-AKL routing is a shocker -
GRU-JNB 1825-0715
JNB-PER 1645-0920
PER-AKL 1906-0530 (43hours + thanks to the transit times)

A quicker way is probably GRU-JNB-SIN-AKL or even GRU-ORD-HNL-AKL. But if it were me, I'd be doing GRU-SCL on LX, then use LAN to PPT then NZ to AKL to at least get some Star mileage in.

This is the same problem I've faced when trying to calculate a RTW ticket that starts in AKL....how to get back if you start going west. I don't want to use the allowed miles to go back through the US and going back through JNB isn't allowed (can't reverse direction). Starting going east (through asia) works better, but is less ideal for me personally because of when i want to be in certain regions...

Yes *A urgently needs a new S.American partner.

The only realistic *A route is via UA.

On an RTW the other direction is much easier with TAP flying from many points in Brazil to LIS, or a direct-ish GRU-JNB-SIN-AKL leaving 6.25pm arriving 11.30pm+2.
