*A Through Check in
Hello,
I am brand new to Flyer Talk & this is my first post:
I am flying on 2 seperate tickets on different booking codes, both on Star Alliance Carriers:
Lufthansa Economy: London - Frankfurt
Asiana Business: Frankfurt - Seoul
- and return.
Can you please let me know whether I can check my luggage through to London when I check in in Seoul, or do I have to reclaim my bags in Frankfurt and check them in again for the connecting flight? I am also a Star Alliance Gold Member with BMI if that makes any difference.
Best regards and Happy New Year to all!

Welcome to FT jorguh!!
Officially no *A carrier is forced to through-check your luggage (it's called "interlining" in the airline busines btw).
This is due to the extra costs involved if your luggage misses the connection, however many carriers do this anyway, especially if you have gold status.
Lufthansa at LHR will most likely do it, I really wouldn't worry too much about it, don't know about Asiana though since I have never flown with them, I'll leave that one to someone else to answer.

It is somewhat ironic that you are *G with BMI: BMI is the only * carrier I know of which consistently and officially will NOT interline baggage if the other flight is on a different ticket.
I have had no problems with other carriers, but as they say: YMMV!

In my experience, LH is fairly good about interlining on two different tickets.
I'd be very surprised if they didn't check your bags all the way through to Seoul. Though, as always, Your Mileage May Vary.
