*G - Is it worth it?

Hi All,

I've come up 1500 miles short of the required distance for ROP *G. The only practical flights that I can get to make up the shortfall before the end are going to cost around $800AUD. I am scratching my head wondering if the value of *G is worth the outlay. ROP will give one round trip upgrade and 2 birthday bonus, plus the lounge access & extra baggage etc.

Does anybody have an opinion on the value of become a *G member. I'd assume approx 3 aus - europe round trips next year and one or two to the US. Without a local SA member it can not be used domestically.

TIA

If you are likely to fly TG next year (on flights which are upgradeable and likely to have space to upgrade to) then the upgrade benefit alone is worth it.

For other *A benefits it depends on how much travel and what class (if flying F anyway then the lounge access status benefit for example adds nothing) as to what they are worth.

I was thinking the UG benefit would more than pay for it. However, how would I go using the UG as well as using points to get the wife into the same class as well? Is there some rule against this sort of thing?

I am no expert on TG Royal Orchid Plus but I don't see why not, subject to availability of course.

The *G lounge access rate is USD 25 per head. That's how *A carriers offset their internal accounts.

So, other that the ROP benefits, the $mil Question is whether baggage priority handling, priority boarding and excess baggage privileges count to AUD 800. It does get frustrating and when you attempt to do an ROI on requalification.

If you are based in OZ, switching to QF/OW would be better. QF has a lifetime Silver (aka OW Ruby) and lifetime tiers. Once you hit that, its a home run!!!!

For me, the ability to hangout in *A lounges in most airports and priority check-in are the big perks of being *G. I would highly encourage you to go for it, especially if you are going to fly as much as you did this year.

Never mind *G. The main benefit for ROP members is the guaranteed seat on certain economy classes when flying TG, and better chances for upgrade on TG flights.
