* gold access

quick question, my dad just became a * gold with asiana. he recieved a new card with the gold logo in the corner. he tells me that if he gives it to me i wont really have a problem getting into lounges becuase we have the same last name and airport lounge's dont check every detail. is there any truth to this? speciflly i would want to use the status to get into the asiana lounge in icn and the * alliance lounge in mnl.

Usually the lounges compare the name on the card with the name on the boarding pass. Children showing their parents cards is quite a common occurrence and lounge attendants look out for it. Your dad might not be checked that much, but when a younger passenger shows up they have a good look.

You could try to get in, but if they catch you, they will keep the card and send you away. So its your luck.

Oh yeah. This happens a lot to me. I think once they also asked to see my passport just to make sure I was a 1K. They gawked when they saw that I am who I really am and I do fly a lot as a 22 year old.

So times you win, sometimes you lose. It all depends on how tech wired the airlines are. Some lounges have boarding pass and *G card readers and they will do a match. Good luck!

As long as your boarding pass does not show your full name, assuming that your last name is the same as your father's. Then it is considered as a match.

If they do not match, you will be refused entries for any lounges. Rules do not allow any membership transfer.

Your father is giving you some misleading wrong information.

What about I have a got *Gold (I'm young only 23) then I give the card to my Dad to use it, then it won't be a problem for him at all, becasue he is old enough, we have a same last name and the 1st letter of our 1st name. Better chance?

Though, if you are young enough, they don't usually check

Master AN*G, who is *G at 3 years old, gets in fine without having to show his boarding pass (though accompanied by an adult). Wonder what would happen if I sent him a few steps ahead of me one day ...

Same Name?

I have the same name as my father, just different middle names. I am an Elite Gold at Continental. Do you think my Dad can use my account? Does Continental have access to birthdates?

Welcome to FT wetdog1. Never having flown on CO before, but wouldn't your status be printed on your BP? In your dad's case, he'd have nothing printed there and maybe his FF account number. If the lounge agent sees the discrepancies, then he may be in some trouble or you might get your self into some trouble.

I just don't think sharing elite status is worth the trouble.
