Award ticket ......

Not sure, if this belongs here or in the Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus forum. Moderators, please move to appropriate forum, if necessary.

I am in Atlanta and trying to get an award ticket to Sydney return. Been told by Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus I need to pay or make my own way for the domestic flight to LA or SFO to get a star alliance flight from there. Is that right?

I suspect that they're thinking of only a TG award. I don't know about TG, but it may be that there is a different award level for the *A award than for a TG award. You should be able to get a *A award from ATL...

In general, provided that there's a *A airline that serves the departure city (and award seats available, of course), you should be able to get the entire itinerary--including domestic connections--as an award.

I would say that if you are talking strictly about a TG award, then the agent you talked to is correct:

BUT... a *A award from N. Amer-Austrailia is 80,000 in Y...then you could fly ATL-SFO-SYD with UA. If I remember correctly...NA-Aus. with TG is approx. 100,000....so if you took the *A award, you would effectively save yourself 20,000 miles, and eliminate a stop in Asia.

Food for thought...

Thanks guys!

The london ROP quoted me 110,000 miles from Atl - Syd in Y. Put the phone down and phoned the ROP in LA and was quoted 80,000 for the same trip.
