Upgrade Options on *A Using UA Miles

I flew to ORD-JNB (through FRA) on LH and SA in C-class, and the flight and seat were amazing. I'm in JNB for three months for work, and I get a one week fly-back to the US. Unfortunately, my firm will only pay for Y-class for the fly-back. What are my options to upgrade (if any)? UA's SWUs are only confirmed on UA and on good for stand by on LH. Is there any way to upgrade on SAA or do I have to sit in Y?

My firm offered BA's World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy), but I don't can't give up all those UA miles. Any advice? Please...

*A Upgrades would be Nice

I just called the 1K desk and asked if they knew when we would be able to Upgrade using miles on Star Alliance Partners and they said they had no Idea. This is annoying b/c I am flying SQ on May 31 from Hong Kong-AMS on a B Fare and needless to say if my miles were in LH Miles and More this would be an upgradeable fare Ughhhh.
Sometimes UA can be so frustrating. As for your question I guess you can use a SWU on LH to get you where you want to go as that appears to be the only current option.
