So, as with everything United, it seems it all depends on who you speak with. As I said, I had luck with two different *A awards last fall, which of course must be done over the phone, and one on-line UA award two months ago.

My experience was that they could issue into someone elses name, but in the case of paper tickets, they needed to be mailed to the account holders address. This was less than 3 months ago when we booked award tickets to Fiji for my brother in laws honeymoon. BIL and SIL each have distinct last names in their passports. No signature required.
