Contract lounge access with *G?

I wonder, what happens if I would want to use a contract lounge in an airport (let's say OTP) that allows access to the only *A airlines that fly there (LH, LX, OS) but have *G status on a different *A airline (like TG)? Would they let me in? Is there a specific rule for such cases or would I be left in (shudder) the hands of the gate agent's willingness? I would be traveling in Y, hence no other possibility of access...

My experience is that there is generally access provided (the check in agent will give you a voucher) if are flying on the contracting carrier, for OTP this would be LH, OS, LO and ?LX

The 2005 Star Alliance reference guide which is available from my download site says:

"Contract Lounges

Contract lounges (not owned or operated by Star Alliance member carriers) are provided by each airline; access is permitted for Star Alliance Gold customers when travelling on that Star Alliance carriers operated flight.

Members of the paid airport lounge membership programmes are not entitled to access contract lounges."

That's excellent news, I'll print it out! Still a few months before I achieve Gold status, but I'll definitely be traveling on either LH or LX.

Does this mean you would NOT get access if, for example, travelling on an LH flight while UA *G?

I know the wording isn't precise, but my experience has been that it is irrelevant which airline you are Star Gold in. All Star Golds have access to the contract lounges when travelling on the contracting carriers' flights.

I presumed they would have worded it differently if they meant it to be more restrictive.

I think the reasoning is as follows, using a more concrete example:

SQ contracts to Lounge A
TG contracts to Lounge B

You are flying on SQ as a Star Gold. TG will not give you a voucher to get into Lounge B but SQ will give you a voucher to get into Lounge A.

If you are flying on a non-Star carrier, you don't get into either lounge.

Beijing Lounges

Hello,

I'm a UA *G. Which lounges can I use if flying ex BJS on SQ? And any recommendations?

Thanks,

Adam.

There is a contract lounge run "mainly"? by Air China. There are snacks, free beer and drinks, internet access. You must get a voucher from SQ when you check in or you won't be allowed in the lounge. Star Gold card won't help without the voucher.

Other posters have reported a second lounge that they use when the Air China main lounge gets overflowing. I haven't been in it as I have always used the Air China lounge. They are not sumptuous but the seating is comfortable enough. The main Air China lounge is quite large and has lots of internet terminals, cold beer and soft drinks in addition to some basic snacks.

*G Lounge Access in OTP or PRG??

Hi everyone,

sorry to resurrect this old thread, but search turned it up and it seemed to be the most accurate for my query.

I'll be flying LX (Swiss Airlines) either to Bucharest (OTP) or Prague (PRG).

However, I can't determine for certain whether or not I as a BMI *G Holder will have lounge access in either airport.

I know that they are contract lounges at both airports. I can't find the terms and conditions of the contract lounges on the staralliance employees website.

http://www.starallianceemployees.com...lounges.1.html only shows Star Gold Lounges

I found this: http://www.swiss.com/WEB/EN/SERVICES...worldwide.aspx

which says that Miles & More Senator / Star Alliance Gold have access, but is it only Miles and More Star Golds? or any Star Gold?

Could someone tell me where to find the contract lounge policy on the Star Alliance website?

thanks!

Nevermind!

Contract Lounges

SAG customers have access to third party Contract Lounges contracted by the Star Alliance member carrier on which the customer is travelling.

* Customer must present a valid frequent flyer programme SAG level card
* Customer must also present a boarding card for a same day Star Alliance flight departing from that local airport having a contract with the third party lounge
* Customer is entitled to one guest. Guest must be departing on the same day and same carrier
* Paid Lounge members are not entitled to use any contract lounges

Found my own answer :P
