Im just finishing off my CRTWSTAR3 in a few days. Will reroute for the third time (ouch!) later today to maximise miles and segments:

ARN-FRA-SIN-KUL // BKK-SIN-CGK-SIN-LAX-LAS-SFO // LAX-JFK-FRA-CPH-ZRH-DAR-ZRH-MAN-ZRH-LCY-CPH-PRG-ARN

This should be 38.994 miles and 24 segments according to Circle mapper:

The Eurobonus LX-offer in April comes in handy with 7500 extra miles (5000+2500) also. 20 PPS sectors in total, need five more within 8 months.

I've become so hooked by this RTW business that I have already booked my next one in late May! :)

I am trying to get a RTW organized but my mileage ( to get my PPS ) comes to 29600. Do I have to go to Level 2 or is there a rule where you can add up to 1000 miles by paying a few hundred dollars? I seem to, vaguely, remember something like this, but can't find the link.

No but oyu could try to reduce milage by flying a few segments outside the RTW as one way tickets

Sorry but there is no such rule - even if you were in single digits above the cutoff. The only thing you can do in such a situation - which you unfortunately are not - is to see if you can issue it with a different carrier with Star - as the approach to mileage calculation will differ between booking systems - and also on how cities with multiple airports are being handled.

Bear in mind that lad segments between two cities will account fully towards your total.

Well--here it is:
BKK-SIN-CCU-SIN-FRA-JFK-YYC-YVR-SYD-SIN-BKK. Need as many SQ flights as possible as I have 13.5 PPS Sectors and this will get me PPS. If I have to do 34,000 then will do more sectors!!

Simplest is to drop SYD. Note that CCU is near the upper limit of a PPS earning band, DEL would be better purely from PPS earning viewpoint.

BKK-SIN-DEL-SIN-FRA-JFK-YYC-YVR-ICN-SIN-BKK has about 1360 miles to play with and earns in C the following number of PPS sectors (assuming on SQ)

BKK-SIN 1.25
SIN-DEL 2.5
DEL-SIN 2.5
SIN-FRA 5
FRA-JFK 2.5 (must be separate flight number or stopover at FRA)
YVR-ICN 3.75
ICN-SIN 2.5 (must be separate flight number or stopover at ICN)

total 21.25

The OP has 13.5 already. If the suggested routing is reversed: BKK-SIN-DEL-SIN-ICN-YVR-YYC-JFK-FRA-SIN-BKK, the OP will arrive back in Canada as a QPP. Then the next trip JFK-FRA, the OP can use the VS Clubhouse at JFK instead the Swiss lounge. And, before BKK, the OP will be able to go to SKL F section as PPS.
Just my loonies.

CGK and Kiwiflyer--the suggestions are excellent but there are a couple of little hiccups that I have to deal with:
1. I have to be in CCU
2. I have a meeting in SYD in April ( recent discovery) so I can deduct the costs
3. MY PPS year started Feb 06!!

I don't think you can get 38.5 PPS sectors on a single *A RTW, but depending on when you're renewal date is could (re)qualify for this membership year and make a good start on next year (by travelling in the new membership year).

If you need to include both CCU and SYD (and YYC) on the same ticket that will be difficult within 29,000 miles. If they could be on separate tickets then BKK-CCU (TG nonstop or SQ via SIN) may not be too expensive?

I assume what you said about "My PPS year started Feb 06" is the first flight you took on SQ that earned the PPS sectors/miles. If you reach 25 sectors by mid-Sep 2006 for example, then you are "qualified" PPS. And I believe your QPP1 status will start Oct 1. And you have to requalify by earning 25 sectors by the expiration date of your QPP1 card. (I think it's not exactly 12 months from Oct 1, but something like 14 months.)

Thus, you can plan your RTW as follows: Get the 11.5 sectors needed to qualify for the first year. Do BKK-SIN-CCU-SIN-BKK on SQ J as seperate tix. The RTW will start as BKK-SIN-FRA-JFK-YYZ-YYC. Home and you are a qualified PPS. Then continue as YYC-YVR-ICN-SIN-SYD-SIN-BKK. These sectors will be count for your PPS requalification.

Well, I haven't checked the mileage yet. But at least you get the idea about the PPS qualification.

Thanks CGK. Yes-- Feb is when I had my first flight for PPS. I checked the mileage and the flights to CCU and here is the problem:
BKK-SIN-CCU-SIN-BKK is $2300 and the extra for me to pay for the 34000 CSTAR is less than that.
The routing you have outlined gets me a lot of PPS sectors but is 30261 miles. I am thinking that I could pay for the Level 2 and do the following:
BKK-SIN-CCU-SIN-FRA-JFK-YYZ-YYC-YVR-ICN-SIN-SYD-SIN-BKK. I have to calculate the miles, but I think it will be very close-- it comes to 33865 miles by the webflyer calculator. Am I allowed to do YVR-ICN-SIN-SYD-SIN-BKK sector?

You only can pass SIN 3 times (including a stopover). Your proposed itinerary has 4.
One way to do it, is by doing BKK-CCU-SIN-FRA-... where BKK-CCU on TG.
