Last time I heard was it was going to join SkyTeam. Haven't they signed MoU already? Watch Air China as the next candidate to join Star.

Yes, Aeroflot has a MOU with Skyteam. Should see them join next year... Hasn't Air China signed a MOU with Star Alliance?

SU to join Skyteam in 2007.

There is still much homework to be done.

With Aeroflot and Korean, SkyTeam will have two big mediocre carriers.

(And to think, you could replace those names with DL and NW for the mediocre carriers)

Thumbs down

Air China is not invited to *A yet, although LH is keen on bringing Air China
to the alliance.
Based on my last flying experience with the carier, it would be a shame to *A if
CA joined the club.

As of last year, CX has acquired a 10 percent stake in Air China; LH decided not to invest. An entry into Star, thus, seems highly improbable now, although the codeshare with LH will stay for longer.

I understand where you are coming from but a recent statement by Air China boss says the 10% CX stake wouldn't stand in the way of any decision making with regard to joining alliances. Actually management from CA have continued to attend Star Alliance semi-annual meetings for a few times now. Of course I would imagine CA needed to improve service and IT capabilities significantly before it could be admitted into Star. Considering China Southern will join SkyTeam next year, Star would have to accelerate the wooing process, if you like.

It is hard to believe that 10% stake will affect the decision-making process of CA.
It is only 10%. Not a controlling stake.
Besides LH has a huge strategic interests in the chiness market both cargo and passenger sectors. LH generates more revenue from Asian flights than the NorthAtlantic routes now.

Let's not forget the UA codeshares, as well.
