map?

Where can I find a map of all Star Alliance destinations and routes? Does such a thing exist? The International map in the united in-flight magazines leaves out a lot of destinations e.g. quite a few served by SAS

You can find the complete timetable in PDF form or in a downloadable routing tool at the *A website (http://www.staralliance.com/). To go right to the PDF timetable, which is about 3 MB, go to http://www.startimetable.com/StarAlliance.pdf

I too looked high and low for such a map and found nothing. Instead I went to each airlines destination map. Lufthansa, Singaport, and New Zealand all have pretty good web based maps. This was essential for working in an ATW trip.

The Star Alliance ATW software also is very useful to determine which partner flies between specific city pairs. There is one catch if you are on an award ticket, sometimes *A's use code shares on non member airlines. An example is Verig's flight to Cape Town, which is actually operated by South African.

This will be solved shortly (maybe) when SAA joines *A.

I've never seen a comprehensive *A map. It'd be nice to have, unfortunately you are stuck going to various airline Websites to look at their own maps.

I suspect a complete map would be far too cluttered to be usable. The ones in Hemispheres are pretty much that way already.

To the administrators: Do you think we could make a sticky somewhere and post all the links to every star alliance route map. Some are quite difficult to find, and I suspect a lot of people might want to see a collection of maps to figure how best to spend their miles...

I would bet that if you compiled all those links and put them in a new thread, that it would be linked in the FAQ sticky in this forum, and probably the *A forum too.

I'm assuming this is just a list of links to the map portions of each Star Alliance website, correct? I've seen "dynamic" flash type maps on several carriers, so the link will just be to that.

I'll volunteer.

Dynamic or static will work really. As long as we can compile links to visual representations of where we can fly on star alliance carriers.

This has been my screensaver for about a year or so. You can set it in two versions. One is "accelerated" and shows little dots on a world map that move to show where the flights are, one for each flight. The other option is "normal speed" and this shows the same little dots along with random flights as a line between two destinations along with the airline/flight# info. Really quite cool. It also shows the number of flights "in the air". I have no idea how this is generated, but suspect it must be based schedule info rather than actual real time.

The accelerated version is fun as it shows flights arriving and departing the various hubs. For example, the early morning period shows all the flights departing FRA, then they all come back home in late afternoon/evening. The normal speed version has taught me alot about where *alliance flies.

edited to correct many typos caused by sticky fingers
