I'm flying out to PVG on BA miles in December. Then planning to fly down to BKK and CNX on TG on a revenue ticket and returning to LHR via PVG. I was delighted to see on TG's website that the price for business class was under GBP450. I went through the booking engine and got stuck at the point where I had to have the ticket issued in China. I will be in China 4 days before departure to BKK. Unfortunately, e-tickets are not available for PVG to BKK.
My question is - does anyone know a good local travel agent who I could book through and they post over the tickets. Or any other suggestions? Ticketing out of the UK doubles the price.
Thanks

I think booking through TG website is the safest way of getting your ticket. TG office in Shanghai is located in convenient downtown area and you shouldn't have any problem getting there. Booking through a local travel agent usually you must go there in person and in 4 days it's risky if they can't get you the ticket on time.

Thanks for the reply. My problem is that my trip isn't until December, but I want to book the flights now. The won't hold the seats for more than 72 hours. Unfortunately, they can't e-tcket PVG-BKK and therefore I need to have someone go into the Thai airlines ticket office and buy the tickets for me or use a local travel agent who could then post them to the UK.Originally Posted by Xiaotung

Local travel agents are hardly an option because you won't be able to pay them as I know none of them accpets international credit cards. Even if you do send them the money through telegraphic transfer there could still be a lot of hassle. Language barrier, exchange rate, etc. Your best chance is to contact Thai office and have them post it to you. And why can't you pick up your ticket in Thai Shanghai office yourself in December?
According to the Thai office in London, the office in Shanghai (or anywhere else) will not accept a booking over the phone, as they cannot verify the credit card. This ticket needs to be issued within 72 hours, so holding it until I arrive in Shanghai is also not an option. (If PVG could handle e-tickets, I wouldn't have this problem).
Fortunately, I've just discovered that by coincidence a close friend is going to Shanghai in early June. I assume that if he goes to the TG office in Shanghai they should be able to issue my ticket and charge it to his UK credit card? Any thoughts?

That would be extremely helpful - but they want to see me sign my credit card slip - this is all designed to stop passengers benefitting from cheaper fares in other markets. The EU put a stop to this unfair practise earlier this year. Eg. For LIS-JFK (via LHR) BA used to charge c.4000 if bought in the UK and 2,000 if bought in Portugal. Now they have to offer the ex-LIS fare in the UK (but the pax. still has to fly the LIS-LHR leg to qualify).Originally Posted by Xiaotung

Yes.. that is the only way that you can ensure that you have your tickets on hand!
