booking *A RTW

LH call centre in the UK said it needed a day to get back to me after I told them my proposed itinerary - is that typical for RTW trips?

Don't know about the timings, I'm just planning my first RTW and I'm waiting for an agent to get back to me.

Is this for an economy booking? if not, are you really sure you want to start in the UK

Why not? It seems slightly cheaper as well.

If you're looking at economy fares the UK is very competitive, but if you're after business or first then it's one of the most expensive.

Anyway LH is now telling me that Y RTW is booked in M-class not B-class? Do you know anything about that? (B-class earns more miles on UA).

(Btw, I have actually found the business market ex-London to be very competitive, at least to Asia.)

Star 1/2/3 fares in the "Why?" cabin are booked in M on all carriers, except B for NH and H on AC. (Exceptions apply to OZ & NH domestic flights - book Y).
Starlite/StarSpecial is booked in H on all carriers with the domestic exceptions for NH OZ as well as TG applying.

There is a link to the rules in this forum somewhere - do a search for posts by BlondeBomber. Am sure it's his link & in one of his posts on a Star RTW rules thread.

Cheaper Ex UK

You should get the ticket (Economy) for about 50% less by travelling ex-London/UK. Any good agent should not need anything like a day (for a standard RTW) - better to check a company such as Trailfinders - they know their stuff and could provide you with a good price/schedules in a few minutes on the phone. e-mails agencies hate as there is a lot of work that goes into pricing RTW routes and they just assume that you are emailing lots of agencies/airlines and are therefore a waste of time. Just my experience.

I think it was B for UA until the most recent change.

Correct. UA was B for ages until they finally wised up and went M like all the rest. A real loss for the EQM freaks out there :-)
