I doubt the rules are different for Silver and Gold. More likely I gave a confusing/incorrect example. I believe the rule is what I wrote: "If you qualify for higher status anytime during your qualification year it should be valid for the remainder of your current status year plus all of the following."

However, the example I gave was wrong, it should have read:

For example, if you qualify for Gold sometime during January 2005 to September 2005, you will get Gold status until December 2006 (i.e., the remainder of the current status year which lasts until Dec 2005 + the following).

If you qualified during October-December 2004, the new status would be valid for the remainder of the current status year, ending December 2004 + all of the following, i.e., until December 2005.

With AC Aeroplan, you qualify in any Jan-Dec. year. Your status lasts from when you qualify to end of February, at least 14 months, ie qualify in October 2004, status lasts to Feb 2006. It seems that most people's experience has been that once you qualify for Elite (ie Star Gold), you will get your benefits right away (as long as it is before early November in any given year) but there is still some uncertainty over this as it is not explicit in the program rules unless you were already a Prestige (Star Silver) member.

Prestige have to wait until the new membership year after qualifying to receive their benefits so it is conceivable that you might have to wait until the next membership year to receive Elite/Star Gold benefits in your first qualifying year.

Varig Smiles (RG) - Takes your last 12-month activity. Let's say in March/05-best month or through December/05 you hit 100k miles. You'll become RG Diamond till 31/03/2007. As RG only downgrades one level at a time, even you if you don't fly anymore after that March/05 you'll still be *A Gold till 31/03/2008 !

The requalification rule is not effective now.

I think they will enforce it once they get enough OZ*G members.

100,000 miles doesn't need to be on OZ metal, you can fly any *A for miles.
