Booking classes for * RTW

Quick one for the Star experts...

Not very familiar with * RTWs -- I know that OW books into L for its Y-class trips... what does * use? (Trying to figure out mileage earnings... )

I assume you're asking about Y since you mention Y-class in yr post.

M for most of them.
exceptions:
AC - H
BD - Q
NH - B (Int'l); Y (Dom)
OZ - M (Int'l); Y (Dom)
UA - B

Also note those classes are for the YRWSTAR1/2/.3 fares. The StarLITE (26k) fare, sometimes known as STARSPCL fare, books in lower availability booking classes, eg: H on UA, W on BD....

BD changed their booking class for Starlite a while ago. All the carriers now use H for the Starlite fare except for TG/NH/OZ on their domestic flights and LH 6500-6785.

BD went to M a while back.

Mileage earning wise, these booking classes are fairly generous, aren't they? A lot better than LONEs anyway.

Thanks for all the info everyone.

XC and XF are purely internal use at UA from memory. Most carriers use O (for F) I (for Biz) and X (for Y) on rewards. Some exceptions - AC comes to mind (D & W).
RTW Biz cabin is booked in D on all carriers except AC (C) and NH OZ and TG domestic flights. RTW in F is A on the carriers that operate F cabins, or else book down to the Biz cabin class if no F cabin operated.

What about business class *A RTW revenue tickets, where there is only a two class aircraft. In this instance -- a UA issued segment from ORD to SXM (Chicago to St. Maarten).

Am I supposed to be put in First or Economy?

From the Star RTW rules, section B. Capacity Limitations

"On sectors where First/Business Class is not offered/available at the time of booking passengers will be accommodated in the next lower class. No refund will apply. Exception: on sectors within/between USA/Canada where Business Class is not offered passengers will be accommodated in First Class subject to availability of seats at the time of booking. In the event First Class seats are not offered/available no refund will apply."

So, unless there is some small print somewhere making Caribbean islands a special case, it looks like you go down. :-(

cheers,

Henry
