India from JFK in C

Just found out that I need to go to India the first week in December for a little over a week. Company will be picking up the C fare. Can anyone suggest a *aliance into and out of Bombay? I have already qualified for 1K for 2005. Would obviously love to fly SQ, but the routing looks to be almost 2x as long transpac vs east routing. Looks as though LH may be the ticket through Frankfurt. As a further consideration, I have several SWU's on UA that I think are allowed on LH (i.e. could go from C to F on LH). Any advice would be welcome.

As an aside, would anyone have any input as to a side trip in India for 3-4 days after the biz is finished?

Thanks!

For short flying times, there is no option other than to use LH via FRA. SQ offers service JFK-FRA, but I don't know if you can combine it with FRA-BOM on LH.

If you are prepared to backtrack you could fly east bound via SIN/BKK using NYC-FRA/MUC-SIN/BKK-BOM, but this will add 6 hrs more flying.

Bombay has plenty to offer if you like big cities. You could take a trip into the interiors to see the countryside or buy a ticket for 200-300$ to Goa and enjoy the beach in good hotels which come for 100$ a night or backpacker places for far less.
