Which is best Star Alliance Program?
I plan to make several trips in next 12 months on business class with NZ ans SQ.
I have been viewing the FF programs for each of these carriers and also United, these and others being members of the Star Alliance group.
SQ appears to require 50000 miles to become Gold member. It seems NZ is not so difficult. With 200 points on its program, I think something around 40000 miles may yield Gold equivalent status. With two trips on the following itinerary in business class would bring about 188 points, I believe:
syd-chc-hkg-sin-kul-sin-jkt-sin-pen-sin-syd
I am keeping the above within 15000 miles.
Perhaps others with more experince could share thoughts on my plans and recommend the better program.
Cheers.

there are many threads on this topic but it all depends on what you want to get out of the program: lounge access, upgrades, free trips . . .
I presume you have checked out the comparison chart:

Once you decide what benefits you want, it is a lot easier to settle on a program. It is usually though not always best to register in the program of the airline that you will be flying on most frequently if you want to get upgrades for example. If all you want is lounge access, then the cheapest way (e.g. 35k qualifying miles on all Star carriers for AC Aeroplan) to Star Gold might be the answer.

Here is a post containing advice from Randy on choosing a FFP.
If you are flying lots of business or first (econ doesnt count) class on SQ dont forget that you could get status in 2 programs by way of PPS Club. (Miles go to any FFP by SQ recognises your loyalty as well. See lots of threads on this in the SQ forum.)
You may have noticed NZ Airpoints is changing from Nov 04. There is a substantial increase in earning (AIrpoints Dollars as well as status) for business and first class. However this is tempered slightly by lower rates for itineraries that include any airline other than NZ on any leg (the lower rates also apply to the sectors flown on NZ).

With you passing through SIN so much I would recommend trying for PPS Club as well as whatever program you choose. Helps with both paid and award availability on SQ, and gives access to Silver Kris lounge at SIN (Raffles regardless of which airline flying or class, and First if flying SQ in Raffles ie business).
If flying from SIN on other carrier or in econ on SQ, then *G does not provide access to these lounges and use the inferior SATS Premier lounge instead.
