upgrade *A RTW Lufthansa segment?
Has anyone succeeded in upgrading a Lufthansa segment of a *A RTW economy class ticket? I was under the impression that the fare basis is upgradeable by UA miles or a SWU, but the UA Mileage Plus desk person just told me that Lufthansa doesn't allow upgrades for any RTW fares. Please advise if you've got it to work otherwise?

An SWU should certainly work. Miles should work as well. You may have gotten bad information. But then again, my info may be out of date as well.
Whose ticket stock is the ticket on, and what is the segment?

Any paid segment with LH (nr. + metal) is upgradeable unless it is booked in W or S intercontinental and two other classes (L and T AFAIR) for Europeen travel.

The ticket is on Lufthansa stock. The segment is a pure LH flight on LH metal. The first UA person I talked to, pre-booking, said it is upgradeable for 35,000 miles (Europe to Asia) but now that it's ticketed the next UA person says that Lufthansa specifically does not allow upgrading of discount fares and RTW fares. I have no idea where she was getting that from, but I'm trying to find out now what booking class that segment is in and then I guess I'll try with another UA person.

If you get confirmed something different to what is posted in the the "How to Upgrade on *A carriers" thread, can you please post the outcome?

You should be able to upgrade one of these LH sectors with UA miles - remember it is a combersome process involving a paper certificate and so on, but you _can_ upgrade RTW sectors as such. Don't forget a UA SWU will _only_ upgrade on a standby basis and I can tell you from personal experience of more than one flight, it's very nerve wracking waiting.. waiting.. waiting for you to be magically called right before departure for the fabled upgrade seat
Good luck!

Good luck!

RTW lite was upgradeable on LH segments using LH miles for me last year and I was successful. Advantage of LH miles, though expensive in miles, is they are upgradeable at time of booking if space is available. I had to wait a couple of weeks for mine to clear but it did clear prior to flight time on a busy route (JNB-FRA)

Just now I was also told by UA MileagePlus Desk staff that it is no longer in using UA MileagePlus miles certificate, which I am keeping always in my hand, to upgrade LH metal flight with StarAlliance RTW ticket, although I could upgrade at May 2004 with StarAlliance RTW (YRWSTAR). LH allows to upgrade a person, who has a normal fare or a PEX fare basis ticket only, with UA mileageplus miles from now on.
However, SWU is still available to upgrade LH metal with StarAlliance RTW on stand-by basis.
I guess this is related with recent change of LH M&M.
I'm upset...... and should use SWU instead of UA MileagePlus miles certificate.
It was already posted in here.
