Using Amex points to travel on Lufthansa
Hello,
As a newbie, I hope this is the appropriate forum to post this question.
I want to transfer some Amex rewards points to some airline and try and get an award ticket ( economy ) on Lufthansa ( BLR ( india ) - FRA- PHL ). With US Air joining Star Alliance, can I transfer the required number of reward points to my USAir account and then try to call USAir to see if I can get an award ticket on Lufthansa ?
I checked US Airways web site and it looks like it is possible, but I wanted to know if this was the best option or if there were some better alternatives?
Have any FT members tried this combo ( USair points and travel on lufthansa ), if so how was the experience ?
I also have a bunch of points with starwood and marriott groups.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can transfer amex points to either US or ANA, and then obtain tickets on LH. DO NOT transfer your points to the airline until after you have called them and determined availability - as the transfer is not reversable. You probably should call each, to determine if one has a lower redemption amount than the other. I have used ANA several times to book LH flights, with very good luck. I have not used US yet, as they just joined the Star Alliance. GOOD LUCK!!!
