Is this route possible? (newbie)

Hi everyone, I'm new here, I'm trying to plan a RTW trip (d'uh) and I'm trying to see if the route I have is possible, it looks like star alliance is the best bet, the travel agents have ranged from pretty good to possible special school escapees who saw a plane in a picture book once. Anyway heres my route, I think it should be ok but need some advice really, also I don't know airport codes they look like amino acid sequences for proteins, of which I have limited knowledge at best.

London to Mexico City

Mexico City to Quitto (probably via Miami)
(Overland to Lima)

Lima to Cusco
(Overland to Arica)

Arica to Punta Arenas
(Overland to Santiago)

Santiago to Auckland
(Overland to Queenstown)

Queenstown to Sydney

Sydney to Brisbane

Brisbane to Singapore
(Overland to Bangkok)

Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City
(Overland to Vientiane)

Vientiane to Bangkok

Bangkok to London

Any help would be great, cheers, take care

Pete

Unfortunately I dont think any of your south american legs are flown by Star Alliance - including SA to NZ.

The only way to get from SA to NZ on Star Alliance is via Los Angeles (LAX) or from 30 June San Francisco (SFO) - which adds a lot of miles.

If you want to see both South America and NZ/Australia, then you may be better off with One World round the world, as Lan Chile has extensive route in South America, and flies across to both NZ & Australia.

The rest of your routing looks to be operated by Star Alliance. You will only be allowed 1 stop over (more than 24 hours) in Bangkok, so one of the connections will need to be less than 24 hours.

I havent gone into much detail as the first thing to sort out is the south american part.

Just a question - why so many overland segments? Do you realise overland still counts in the mileage?

Hi PeteUK,

I would like to suggest that you check out the star alliance website and download one of the routing software onto your PC and you can then create your itienrary. http://www.staralliance.com/star_all...e/main_10.html

Star does fly Sydney to Brisbane on UA codeshared with Qantas, unfortunately not bookable for RTW BUT Sydney to Melbourne is bookable on UA. (I think this is the only Star intra-Australia flight bookable on RTW)

You may also want to use both Bangkok and Singapore as your connection points in South East Asia rather than just Bangkok as both SQ & TG have good SEA flights
