Adria Airways to be First * Associate

Slovenian-carrier Adria Airways has indicated that by the end of 2004, it'll become the First member of Star Associate Member.

Star Associate apparently to be an alliance within an alliance.

Star Alliance is using this month's EU expansion as the opportunity to set up a mini-grouping too attract small/medium-size carriers, mainly in eastern europe.

Adria Airways has intensive cooperation with both Star member Lufthansa and Austrian.

At least 4-5 airlines has been invited, probably includes Estonian, Blue1, Croatia, and Adria.

Air Baltic

I've flown Air Baltic a couple of times. They're ok. I wish they would replace their turboprops with RJs though.

Adria

I flew Adria last December from FRA to Ljubljana on an LH codeshare--thought I was getting mileage from LH to my UA account, but not then. Nice to know that they are on board. The short flight was a class act. Nice meal and drinks in a very short time. Very nice crew. Good addition to *. ^

Actually I thought airBaltic is AirBotnia, which becomes Blue1.

Yes, airBaltic is also a potential member.

Dead chuffed about the possibility of Croatian, although puzzled as Croatia is not part of the EU, nor is it likely to become one for a while. Does have strong links with LH though I am sure.
Will make my trips to Croatia much more rewarding.
