Maximising a Split (UA, LH)
Hey guys,
I'm looking for some advice on correcting a split in *a miles. I used to live in the US so I collected with UA where I have miles sitting idle. This is linked through RewardsPlus (grants silver on UA) to Marriott Rewards, which is linked to SPG.
After moving to Germany I started collecting on with LH Miles & More where I now have FT status. I would love to hear your advice on how I could maximize and correct this situation.
Balances:
UA MileagePlus: xxx
Marriott: xxx
SPG: xxx
LH: xxx
The UA miles could transfer 1:1 to Marriott points or the other way around Marriott would be UA miles. Transferring the UA miles out to Marriott, then to SPG, then to LH seems like it would be an extreme loss for the conversion. It seems like it would be better to get a few extra miles on the UA account and redeem them, then continuing to collect on LH.
What do you think? Thanks in advance!

How much do you need for your next award ticket? You could quite easily convert some of the Marriott over to UA to make your award booking then be done with it if that's what you see fit. It doesn't sound as if you're a particularly high mileage flyer, so go with whatever works for you. Just bear in mind that LH requires 100k for Senator status and that is the first level of Star Alliance Gold for them (which is ridiculous). If *G is desirable for you then you might even look outside of Miles & More. Other programs around you like SK, TK, and A3 are far easier to obtain *G which then gets you admitted to the Senator lounges when flying LH group.

It totally depends on what you want to do. Unless you have something specific in mind, I don't see a reason to do a points losing transfer. Your LH miles will have a finite expiration date of 3 years, I would focus on using those first. The UA miles expire, but it's easy to extend the expiration date.
