Star Alliance lounge access

If I am a Star Alliance Gold member on Airline A, and am flying on Airline B and crediting those miles to Airline C, would I be eligible to use Airline B's lounge? All airlines are Star Alliance carriers but I am crediting the miles to a carrier on which I do not have Gold status.

Are there any clear rules about lounge access in this case?

There are clear rules. In your case you will be welcomed with open arms. It would help if we knew what A, B, and C are, since there are always exceptions.

As long as A, B, and C are ALL star alliance carriers, then officially yes. In fact, I think the Star Alliance website has info on this. You may want to bring a printout of the rules as some agents are clueless.

Assume you are flying in Y. If flying in J or F you have access regardless.

If you are not crediting the miles to the FFP you are *G in make sure to have your physical *G card with you, as you will likely need to show it as your status credentials.

Encouraged by your responses, here is the airline 'decoding':

A: I'm a current United Star Gold member

B: Flying on SAS, Turkish, Austrian & Lufthansa

C: Crediting to SQ, where I currently have no status

You shouldn't have any issues. If there are any speedbumps, I'd expect it to be at an LH lounge, but officially you are allowed to do what you want to do without changing the FF number in the reservation.

There is no reason for a LH lounge to deny you entry.

Of interest to this thread, perhaps, I bought two international award tickets for family members using UA MP miles. I am *G. The ticket on AC produced a boarding pass that had *G on it and my family member got to use a Star Alliance lounge, even though I was not traveling or present. The ticket on LH for the second family member did not produce a boarding pass with *G on it so no lounge access there.

That's very interesting. Couldn't the other family member just get in as a guest of the '*G' family member.

Things are a little different at LH.

While none of them should be allowed for lounge access anyway, one of your family member should take it granted that LH allowed it.

Two different routings from two different airports.

Connecting Lounge Access

For someone on international biz ticket SFO-FRA-ARN-TMP, they were denied lounge access by SAS in ARN as ARN-TMP was all-coach plane, even though it was a thru business ticket.

Is that correct? There are no contact points for Star Alliance - so who do you go to get the correct interpretation?

LondonElite Jun 4, 2018 10:59 am

I don't see any reason for the person to have been denied access in ARN on an international J ticket.

That's actually correct. *A policy says:

The customer will need to show a boarding pass in International Business Class on a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport.
However - I am puzzled. Are you UA 1K? Because as a *G, your lounge access is not limited by cabin of service.

So on one hand, you are properly denied because of a non-J BP, you should be admitted as a *G at the same time.
