my (german) travel agent is telling me that this itinerary might cause him trouble , especially the iad-fra-thr part .
what do the experts say?

ham-muc-hkg-bkk-sin-hkg-nrt-icn-nrt-hnl-sfo-mex-mty-mex-iad-chs-iad-fra-thr-fra-ham

The number of crossing between TC2 (Europe/Africa) and TC3 (Asia) has been restricted for RWSTAR tickets to only one. Sorry to say and pleas do not shoot the messenger you are crossing twice: MUC-HKG . and FRA-THR.

BTW: Looking forward to see you soon!

But THR is in Area 2...

From http://www.iata.org/agenthome/dep_su...=1&subpage=183 :

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Definition of Area 2

Encompassing all of Europe and the islands adjacent thereto, Iceland, Azores, all of the Africa and islands adjacent thereto, Ascension Island, that part of Asia lying west of and Including Iran.
</font>
I think the real problem is leaving the country of origin twice. Could you start in another country maybe?

Thank you small em, I am learning. Now I know, that the number of crossing between TC2 (Europe/Africa) and TC3 (Asia) does not reflect here.

small em thinks the real problem is leaving the country of origin twice.

My source for rules of RWSTAR tickets is kempis thread: www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum82/HTML/000761.html

And yes, there is this rule, small em is referring: Not more than one international departure and not more than one international arrival is permitted in the country of origin. You are travelling MUC-HKG FRA-THR.

BTW: Not an issue is that your itinerary reflect travel greater than Round the World, because it is not via the point of origin (= HAM) and still terminates in the country of origin (= Germany).

Alright, the mathematician in me has a question to ask ... because the question has not been addressed.

If THR is in Area 2 AND
If the only problem is the double departure from Germany, THEN
would a routing that overflies Germany on the return be acceptable?

Example: ...IAD JFK OS VIE OS THR LH FRA LH HAM

thefareguru suggested to fly from IAD* via VIE to THR on OS to avoid the second international departure from Germany. The legal routing would be:

ham-muc-hkg-bkk-sin-hkg-nrt-icn-nrt-hnl-sfo-mex-mty-mex-iad-chs-iad-vie-thr-fra-ham (= 33.650 miles)

But there are two more facts we have to consider (I do not know if they are relevant for sunseeker):

OS does not offer a First Class cabin (IAD-VIE-THR would be D)
On Mondays & Tuesday OS does not service VIE-THR

*OS has a non stop service out of IAD, therefore it is not necessary to fly IAD-JFK on UA in coach class.

My suggested solution is to start in a different country (eg put a CPH-HAM at the start of the itinerary).

Has anyone here actually done anything like this to get round the double-departure rule?

Do you have to go to HKG twice? Couldn't you go to BKK first? That would save some miles.

thefareguru asked: Does sunseeker has to go to HKG twice? Couldn't he goes to BKK first? That would save him some miles.

I assume sunseekers intention is to buys a RWSTAR2 ticket. If he goes HAM-FRA-BKK (I think he prefers LH over TG, maybe LHsA340 over LHs 747) he burns 32.452 miles. He saves 1.548 miles for flying additional segments.
