Which 55K? (again!)
I'm planning the following trip on a business class RTW:
MAN-MUC-HKG-ICN (LH/LH/TG)
ICN-YVR-DEN-ATL (AC)
ATL-IAD (UA)
IAD-MAN (BD)
This is between June 8th & 18th.
I am already BD Gold, and the BD "555" promotion is rubbish, so I'm looking to join a different program to claim my true 55,555 miles. So which one? Am I right in thinking UA won't accept D-class flights?
Will this itinerary alone get me to top-tier in any program? (I think it's about 19,000 earth miles).
What dates does the promotion run from & to?
Thanks in advance.

Lufthansa's Miles & More Program might be the best choice for you? You'll get double status and program miles for travel in Business Class (so ~ 38,000 miles) which will make you a FTL, Frequent Traveler Status. LH's "55,555 Promo" also has the least stringent rules.
The promotion runs 14 May - 7 July, 2002.

Actually Air Canada AEROPLAN may be the easiest to get STAR GOLD as you only need 35K miles to get AEROPLAN ELITE. However Biz and First Class flights gets you the normal 25% and 50% bonus only and not as generous as LH's programme.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I'll join M&M; I should be able to get to gold pretty easily with a few of my regular BD MAN-LHR trips.
A question : can you suggest a procedure for flashing my BD gold card (maximising the chances of an upgrade) whilst accruing miles on the card of another *A carrier?

I used my Gold card to get in to the lounges at the weekend - 4 BD flights - once for each program - and they were fine about it. Only problem was no upgrades of course - even when full in back. I don;t they upgraded anyonelse either through. However, when I checked in for my outbound, I got my return boarding pass. When I boarded for the return they made moved the cabin divider and I had a C seat! Whow - well that was until they realised when I had a Y seat again!

I inadvertantly answered my own question this morning. My travel agent had entered my diamond club number on the booking. When checking I presented my brand-new home-made temporary M&M card, and they said "Don't you want to use your diamond club gold card, Sir?".
Kerr-ching! No upgrade though
