Well if you just want to go ORD-SIN there's absolutely *no* advantage in a RTW ticket as I understand you can get fairly cheap fares in the USD $600-$800 range (?) for ORD-SIN on UA. A RTW would cost you at least 3x that, and you must have a minimum of 3 stops on a typical RTW journey (the ones I have seen anyway). The only advantage is in mileage (if you wished to play that game) and to get to see a lot of the world. However if you just want to go to Singapore, stick with a simple r/t fare I reckon.

RTW fares only have an advantage when you fly first or business class.
For about the price of a round-trip first class or business class ticket (or sometimes even less!), you can fly to more places on a first or business class RTW ticket (which means more miles).
