RTW - Booking Class question

I have a StarLite RTW in economy class but I noticed my flights on Austrian Airlines from LHR to VIE and VIE to KTM are booked in B class - what is B class?

Another question - do flights on the economy *RTW normally get booked in Y class or discount economy - all mine seem to be in Y class which I guess will help should I need to change dates/times.

G'day aussieinsf :-

B class on OS is a discount Y bucket (and is _not_ equivalent to UA's B class, btw). If you have other sectors booked in (full-fare) Y - then your agent or whoever is doing the wrong thing, but if it's being accepted then good for you. StarLITE fares are, for most carriers, booked in a less available fare bucket than the regular fares (which tend to book in the more available higher classes).However they're all discount economy (except for B class on UA whih it considers full fare, but that's only useful when it comes to upgrades etc).

IIRC, * RTW tix date/time changes are usually fine as long as the correct fare bucket exists, which is where you could be in strife, as OS B class (and UA H class, etc) are not always as available as the others. Still, they're being way more generous than they could be with the various booking buckets for these tickets.

Hi all,

I have a different question regarding booking class. I've just booked a CRWSTAR2 itinerary originating in JNB through SQ in SIN.

I remember reading somewhere that on UA 2-class metal from Hawaii to the mainland US, C class RTW passengers get downgraded to economy, instead of upgraded to first. Well the SQ agent booked me in first (A) class, so my question is will this go through at ticketing and check-in, or should I try to switch to another flight/route that flies 3-class metal? [I'm currently booked on a 2-class 777, HNL-SFO, but notice that there's a 3-class 763 flying HNL-LAX.]

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Richard in MEL - forewarned is forearmed - I should consider myself lucky for getting the rest of my sectors in Y - perhaps it is worth burning a few MP miles for a UA upgrade SFO-LHR....

I find many *A carriers are changing their booking classes... maybe this has to do with the new Star awards.... I heard the MX has changed quite a few fare class designations, I will investigate further and post later.

milehighj - stick with what you have (although, C in the 3 class 763 would be far more comfy than F in the 2 class 777, let alone Y - but that's your decision).

HNL is a bit odd...

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">
A)IN THE CASE WHERE THE CLASS OF SERVICE FOR WHICH
THE PASSENGER HAS PAID IS N O T AVAILABLE
OVER A PARTICULAR PORTION OF THE ITINERARY
AT THE TIME OF RESERVATIONS - THE PASSENGER WILL
BE BOOKED/ACCOMMODATED IN THE NEXT LOWER CLASS
OF SERVICE AND N O REFUND SHALL APPLY-EXCEPTION
ON SECTORS WITHIN/BETWEEN CONTINENTAL USA/
CANADA WHERE N O BUSINESS CLASS IS OFFERED
AT TIME OF BOOKING - PASSENGERS MAY TRAVEL IN
FIRST CLASS (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY).
</font>
A literal interpretation suggests that HNL is indeed out of the scope of this. However sounds like your friendly SQ agent has considered it an "internal US flight" (well it IS domestic!). So enjoy the fact that they did that. If SQ tickets it, it's between UA and SQ, and you'll ride in your A class seat just fine, though if I had a choice I'd go the 3 class 763 (though I thought they only flew 2 class 763 to Haiwaii).

Thanks RichardMEL,

According to ITN.net, there seems to be just one daily HNL-LAX flight that's a 3-class 763.

UA 934, dep. HNL 0720, arr. LAX 1443

Guess one needs the better seats to make up for the 7.20am departure!
