*A RTW ex-Denmark

For those in the UK who do not want to pay the inflated cost of a *A RTW, Denmark can offer significant savings. I had no luck emailing a few travel agents and eventually I emailed SAS. They responded quickly and said they would be happy to assist. The ticket would be paid for and issued in CPH and posted to me. Cost of a 29,000 miles RTW in J, Dkk29900, approximately GBP2500. A saving of GBP800!

I purchased a recent *A RTW in Stockholm and got similar savings. There was no advance purchase requirement. After making my reservations through the SAS telephone number in Sweden (and having the itinerary fare calculated in Sweden) I walked into the airport on the day of departure and paid with my credit card.

I was surprised that SAS mailed the ticket to you. Did you sign a fax authorizing a charge to your credit card?

I haven't finalised the booking yet so it is not ticketed. They may ask for written confirmation to debit my account nearer to ticketing.

I understand that all EURO countries are now charging the same price - in EURO's - for RTW's - so yes they are cheaper - but they're all the same price unless you have a local bank account.

I'm about to go and get my next one from Dublin - it's a cheaper air fare from London.!

Denmark is like the UK - opted out of the Euro so it is still priced in Dkk. I looked at the Ireland option, but it worked out about 200 more than going through Denmark.

I flew my first class rtw from Dublin earlier in the year - the flight to dublin was significantly cheaper than denmark from London, so basically quits when comparing them together. The travel agent was just superb.

You can call most airlines direct in the originating country to get the fare - with most * rtw fares you can ticket before departure although personally I preferred to have the ticket in my paws before then, and have heard that occasionally non-ticketed pax are sometimes 'lost' from the CSR.

My UK based Travel Agent tells me that he can charge me for my RTW ex-DUB and so earn his commission. Which is only fair for the work he does for me!

I then get a cheap ticket to Dublin and pick up my ticket from BD.

Markie - I spoke to Trailfinders in Glasgow who I booked my last RTW through and asked if they could do the work and ticket it through their Dublin office. They said they could not and I would have to deal directly with Dublin. If they did the work they had to issue the ticket in the UK at the UK price.

Pitbull1K - I live in Edinburgh and can get a direct EDI-CPH flight with BD using my Diamond Club points.

I'm also looking at using Amex Platinum Travel Service in Amsterdam. My provisional itinerary was over the 29000 mile limit from both CPH and DUB, but 15 miles below ex-AMS! I can fly EDI-AMS direct on KLM using my FD points!

Gaza - I assumed you would be able to get a cheap flight from up there, but felt others may need reminding about the Ireland option.
