*A Priorities for Operational Upgrades

I did a search but could not find if this topic has been discussed before so here is the situation.

If I am on a LH flight and they need to upgrade people due to being oversold. Which order do they use to determine the upgrade? I would guess that it is Senators, FTL, *G, *S.

Others have suggested Senators, *G, FTL, *S.

Does anyone have either anecdotal experience or know for sure what the "rules" are?

As you know, the waiting list priority is :
- SEN , *G (same level)
- FTL , *S
- rest of the world

Within a level, the check-in time is the
next criteria. That's why I check-in as
soon as I can (phone or web), even if I
am SEN.
---

If a SEN and a *G with economy tickets compete for one seat in economy and one in business, I think LH people would choose
the SEN for upgrading !

Does it not make any difference, Telephone or real checkin ? wot if like me you tend to use telecheckin to get a nice seat and then check in baggage ?

Does it really work (in practice) that a *G from another carrier will get preference to a *S from the upgrading carrier...? I personally doubt this.

Also, how would it work for carriers that have dual levels in the *G position (e.g. SQ and UA). Does UA treat a Premiere Exec. the same that it does a LH SEN ??

Based on my anecdotal evidence from Saturday, LH gave me priority for an upgrade over *G's. I did get the double upgrade!

On SEA-NRT on UA I was upgraded (AC Super Elite = *G) from J to F. I was the only one it appeared. I would imagine there were many UA *S on the plane.

I guess that is what it is officially, I think they handle it:
1. Sen
2. Star Gold
3. FTL
4. *S
5. Rest

Don't think that normally they ever reach 3, so Mike has happy, maybe asking helped.
