Transiting through IST and the dreaded SSSS
My wife and I are looking at going on a cruise that leaves out of Athens. I was able to find J award space from SFO to ATH transiting through IST. I've read numerous accounts that people that have gone to Turkey got the dreaded SSSS plague. However I'm wondering if transiting through IST would get my wife and I the same treatment. My wife and I both have Global Entry and Pre-check and both depend on the Pre-check benefits for our work travel.

I've flown TK via IST to and from the US several times and never has the SSSS. There are more factors involved or they'd have maybe a couple thousand people a day with it considering how many flights TK has to the US.
I wouldn't worry about it, and if one of you gets it and the other doesn't then hand off all of your carry on items to the other before entering security. The screening goes amazingly fast if you have nothing to screen.

I've flown SFO-IST in J at least 6 times in the past 3 months and never got a SSSS.
However, when I was asked stupid questions by AA security at LHR, the silly Indian b1#@h changed my TSA Precheck boarding pass into a SSSS, although I was flying in J and am an AA ExecPlat. The security guy at the gate who I was asigned to for an additional check, also an Indian, was a gem however and whisked me through in less than a minute.
Yet another reason to fly TK rather than UA, AA et al

You must be a very important person who has to remind us of your status and flight class AND has to publicly put down people who are simply doing their job.
