I apologize in advance for re-posting in a new thread what I already posted in the *A useful reference links, but since it did not get any answers there I am hoping that it will get more attention by upgrading it to a dedicated thread.

Does anybody know why the pdf version of the timetable can no longer be found on the staralliance website ? I tried asking the staralliance helpdesk but they were of no help at all ...

I have the same problem. Also, it used to be possible to use the electronic timetable to see all possible city connections from a particular city - no longer possible, apparently. Don't even get me started on the lack of a Mac version. Palm OS? REALLY?!

Here is the response I received from the Staralliance helpdesk:

The PDF timetable was discontinued due to the very small number of requests/downloads per month.
This is, of course, very unfortunate for those who enjoyed the benefit of the timetable, however we had to
make this decision based on the overall costs required to maintain this service.
We also offer alternative flight schedule solutions which are available on our mobile phone and tablet
products, which allow you to search any route served by any Star Alliance member airline.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I cannot believe what I read: what costs can be required to build a printable timetable and post it on the website ?

Thank you for the link. I had also found that one by googleing "star alliance pdf timetable". It stops at aug 2 and they haven't published any updates.

I agree with you.

You can easily script a report from a database for the desired format. I cannot imagine the cost to be more than 10 or 20 hours per month.

What are they even referring to with the bolded part? They are still offering this for PALM OS , a "historical operating system" with a current market share of what? 0.01 %?

How about letting the Star Alliance Help Desk at [email protected] know how you feel about the discontinuation of the Star Alliance .pdf Timetable??

I travel extensively around the world using RTW tickets and have found the then most current Star Alliance .pdf timetable to be invaluable asset, especially in the case of delayed or cancelled flights. In several instances these timetables on my laptop have assisted passengers, and even crew, of Star Alliance flights in finding alternate flights in the event of delays and cancellations. For this reason I've always had a copy of the latest .pdf timetable with me when I travel.

The .pdf timetable is also a great resource when it comes to trip planning and being able to see in one place all *A cities and flights. Without this resource it's going to make future trip planning more difficult.

I just received a response from the Star Alliance Help Desk at [email protected] as to what has happened to the .pdf timetable. I got the exact same reply as ottone did in posting #3 above. Too much cost says the reply and very few users of these .pdf timetables. If cheltzel is right in posting #6 above and it takes 10 to 20 hours a month to produce a .pdf timetable what would this cost? $1,000? $2,000? $3,000?

For an organization the size of Star Alliance, I can't imagine the cost of producing a once-a-month timetable is much at all. Perhaps *A could defray costs by selling more advertisements?? Furthermore I have been unable to run the PC(star.exe, 4.7mb timetable program) on my Windows 7 based computer. Is anyone else experiencing problems with the star.exe program?

So, with *A offering timetables for Palm OS, what's next? New paper timetables that only require one tree for each timetable?

Hope with enough communication from FlyerTalk members that Star Alliance will reverse its position.

Agree. I can imagine it's a massive work keeping it up to date, but the utility for the frequent traveler is undoubted.
Star Alliance may think it's old fashioned. Hope they keep it well and alive.

Look at my post (#6). I really don't think it is a terribly expensive effort. They have to have all of the data in a database somewhere to create the various timetable apps they still support.

All you need is a script to create a report in a specific format and you have the bulk of the timetable with little or no ongoing effort.

The work would be maintaining the first few pages (Welcome message, member airlines, etc). Not that it would be a huge amount of work.

Agree with you. I'm just not sure about the volume of little/big changes in the seasonal schedule.

But they still need to get all the info together for the other apps.

As long as you can get flight info on the Windows PC timetable app and the IOS and Android apps, they still need all of the flight data in a database somewhere.
