newbie...some basic ?s....

Hey.

I tried googling, and sadly i'm still confused.

I have finally decided to start doing the FF thing, and after a couple of long flights with Asiana I have 37,000 miles.

Im going be taking a transpacific flight in about 6 months and thus would like to get bumped up to 40,000 miles to become platinum.

If I took a flight on United or any star alliance member flight would that would that add miles to me getting elevated member status or would the miles only help me for a future mile redemption award.

IE if I take a 4,000 mile flight on United and use my FF asiana number, will I then become platinum for Asiana?

FYI I do not have good credit and would not like to sign up for a credit card.

thanks, and im sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I saw no newbie section and I really did try searching/googling to figure out my simple and probably asked a million times question.

Yes EQM (elite qualifying miles). You would want to look at the earning miles page on the Asiana website. Looking at United section all coach fare classes earn 100%. O,I & X earn no miles but those are award ticket fare classes and wouldnt earn miles on any carriers
