United 787 vs ANA 777-300 - OMA to NRT

I'm planning a award trip to Japan in November and am finalizing dates. There are a number of flights available on ANA 777-300ER which sounds like it's a great experience, but United is scheduling 787 flights again as well. Will be flying F.

Should I take my chances to experience the 787 with UA, or go for better service and still a great product on ANA. This will be my first time on anything larger than a 767, and first time overseas.

Thanks

I'm not a regular flyer, but if it were me, I would try for the 787 if that's plausible. But for the time being as you know, who knows if the planes are up and running then and that route then.

Seems like it would be more exciting.

I haven't tried 787 of UA, but on NH, 777-er (staggered) was better than 787.
Also, if you choose 787, you may have to encounter equipment change.
(I think UA is doing optimistic scheduling of 787)

THere is no F on UA's 787, only C available.

If it is NH F on 77W compare to UA C on 787, of course go for NH. And if there is NH F seat on 77W available right now, ticket IMMEDIATELY, as that seat will be gone when you go back to look again !

UA butchered its configuration of the 787 - go NH in a heartbeat

Agreed on that. UA maxed the seats on their 787 as opposed to NH, which is way more comfortable. I flew NH 787 from Osaka to Tokyo and it was enjoyable (2-4-2). But on UA, the config is different, with an extra seat on each row (3-3-3)...

In case you are not aware, NH had changed all domestic 787 in Y to 3-3-3 as well.
