Star Alliance Lounge Access while flying code share partners

I have United Club membership which allows me access to Star Alliance lounges, provided I depart on a star alliance flight.

I'll be in Delhi, departing to Hong Kong on Jet Airways (a code-share partner of United) and then connecting from there to Chicago on United. Would I get access to use the star alliance lounge in Delhi (run by Singapore Airlines)?

No access. Sorry. Jet Airways is not a *A member. It's the operating carrier that matters.

But if there was a United Club, you could use it regardless of carrier.

The *A Lounge Access Policy states that Star Alliance flights are "Flights operated under the two letter code of a Star Alliance member carrier" which I read to mean if the Jet flight is ticketed with a UA flight number then access would be allowed, no?

Nope. See above - as with just about anything in Star Alliance, it's all about who's metal you're butt is sitting in.

Ticketing, baggage rules, marketing agreements, codeshares, etc are all irrelevant.

I'm sure you are right and I've never actually been in the position to have to find out, but if so then the wording on the Star web-site is potentially misleading. To me "operated under" could mean any flight number that the flight was carrying, including that of a Star Alliance carrier, but it would seem that "operated under" = "operating carrier" so why not clearly state that (rhetorical question obviously)?

This has been discussed ad infinitum on many *A member fora and there really is no confusion.
The basic rule is: operating metal is the deciding factor.
