Best airline for San Francisco-Tokyo award ticket in business?

The title says it all really!
I plan to go to Tokyo in October on a Star Alliance reward ticket in business (or possibly Premium Economy). Direct flight preferred of course.

Good Luck, you will not regret it. I have flown in J with ANA albeit in their older planes, I love the dedication and service of the crew. Well I also like the Japanese meals as they don't bloat you.

New J is flown to LAX, SFO & JFK. IAD and ORD still have the older seat but it really isnt that bad even though it isnt flat

NH is the only airline I would consider for SFO-NRT. Of course, sometimes you have to be a little open-minded due to availability. SQ via LAX would be #2, AC via YVR #3 and UA would be last for me.

Close, actually OZ via ICN would be 3rd for me.

Like most have said NH with the new cabin is great if you want a direct (I am on NRT-LAX tomorrow actually!).

Or as this IS flyertalk, don't do a direct and enjoy some other options?

LAX-NRT on SQ if you can get it would be great on the 380.

Or SFO-ICN-NRT on OZ in the new cabin. ICN is one of my fav airports for a quick stop, and Seoul if you have never been, is fantastic.

The SJC flight will be starting soon... I wonder if there is any award availability?

This is FlyerTalk. Nobody here wants a direct flight. Maybe people might want non-stop flights for convenience or connecting flights to earn more miles, but certainly not direct (which is meaningful only in the negative on some airlines: fewer miles , harder to get upgrades, etc.)

SQ is often overrated, and the new NH seats are no worse than SQ. Award availability may not be easy on NH until closer to the date, but it's nearly impossible on SQ.

I'd choose ANA, especially if the Boeing 787 was flying then.
