I think A3 is indeed a good choice. 40K miles per year may get you Star Gold on some star partners. But, if you have a year where you may not fly as much, then you get in trouble.
So, A3 is a strong choice for you..as it requires only 20K (and they give 1000 elite miles just for joining). |
Hello there!
(1) What is your home airport? LHR CDG RUN (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? economy/discounted economy plus the occasional business trip in J (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? between 25 and 50 (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? qr burgundy (one flight, that's a joke :) ) (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? good award redemption rates. (6) Which routes do you fly most often? Europe to China (CDG/LHR->PEK/PVG) and ORY/RUN and wherever my work send me. (7) Preferred Airlines no preference so far...SQ(?) I like their service but I don't fly them much. (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? economy when I travel for leisure. Can't choose the airline for work. As a side note, I am not a big *A flyer, but I just think it is a shame to waste those miles. I usually fly BA from LHR and AF from ORY/CDG and UU is my favorite airline to/from RUN... Thanks for your help. |

That one is incredibly hard to choose. Given you're only using *A quite a little, it might make sense to choose whatever program doesn't have an expiry date on their miles.

For status only, A3 would probably be the best choice, unless the occasional C flight you've will be on LH, then it might make sense to go with M&M, if you can at least requalify for it every second year (35k miles) to FTL. Still, having your flights spread out over several alliances is always quite bad for achieving status, so unless they allow you to concentrate your flights a bit more onto *A, I don't see very much to gain.
Thanks for your help :) |
I was just notified that my Krisflyer status expired back in Dec 2009! I haven't lived in Singapore for the past 9 years so it's understandable, but I was putting all my US airline mileage points onto my Star Alliance with Krisflyer... I'm pretty bummed that for the past 1.5 years I've lost all that mileage :( So here I am on a search for a new one...
(1) What is your home airport? Seattle (SEATAC) (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Whatever's cheapest at the time, so economy. (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? This varies a lot. Usually one international flight and a handful of domestic flights. (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? See above! Now I just have a mileage plan with Alaska Airlines now. (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Frequent upgrades, mileage redemption that does not expire... (6) Which routes do you fly most often (US Domestic, Transpacific etc) US Domestic & to Asia maybe 1x every other year (7) Preferred Airlines Well, Singapore Airlines if I could fly them more often. I used to avoid United like the plague, but I'll take it if it's cheaper and doesn't have layovers, etc. So whatever is good as long as it gets me somewhere quickly and for less money! (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Both. I'm flying to Peru this year via Continental, work usually sends me to Jacksonville so I fly Delta. I get whatever flight I can without a layover if I visit friends and family (DC, Columbus, Hawaii) Sorry not the most helpful answers. The type of travel and destination varies a lot! |
(1) What is your home airport? NYC (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Mostly C, some discounted Y (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? 125-150k a year (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? SK EBG (*G), CO Silver, AA Gold, BA Silver (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good redemption, upgrades on personal trips (eco) (6) Which routes do you fly most often (US Domestic, Transpacific etc) Transatl/transpac (7) Preferred Airlines SQ,CX,NH,LH (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Mostly work |

Currently CO miles do not expire. However, CO is going to be integrated with UA and we dont know the new rules of the new program yet. If you want any status, you should try to concentrate your flying in one alliance. (instead of flying different airlines from various alliances for your flights). One Asia trip will probably give you 15K miles or so...(average). Lowest tier on CO/UA needs 25K miles. On the other hand, Aegean (A3) needs only 20K miles to get highest status (Star Gold). If you dont think you will fly much more than 25K miles per year, then consider A3. |

My very first post. I've read a lot of post but find myself more confused. So many offers for mileage bonuses but I have no idea how/which to apply to take full advantage for a trip to Korea later this year and Vietnam 2012. I've only applied for the Chase Freedom $150 (3K limit) cash back offer on May 22 2011. I've never flown out of the country and have only been to Vegas or LA. (Sad I know) I would appreciate the help of FT community. Prior to Chase Freedom I've only own a BofA Platinum Plus Visa 7 years $1500 limit. No debt and paid on time.
(1) What is your home airport? SFO (2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Lowest Economy or Y. Cheaper the better. I just want to get to my destination without any hiccups and dont mind being packed in like a sardine. (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? I'd say less than 25k and want to treat myself to at least 1 trip to Asia every year. (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? nope (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good award redemption rates, bumps are cool but not necessary. I just want to get the most bang for my buck. (6) Which routes do you fly most often Looking to focus primarily Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong (7) Preferred Airlines You tell me. (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Pleasure. :D |

LHR (2) What types of fares do you usually buy? normal/discounted economy (Y class?) (3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? 25-50k (4) Do you have any kind of status at present? None currently, had UA Gold and BA Silver at some point. (5) What is most important to you in a FFP? priority checkin/security, upgrades on intl flights, redeem miles for free tickets, lounge access (6) Which routes do you fly most often per year? LHR to SFO (2-4x), to CDG (10x), everywhere in Germany FRA, HAM, DUS (15x) total around ~30 inter europe, and 4-6 to USA or asia including personal (7) Preferred Airlines you tell me? T5 for BA is nice, and econ+ for UA is great, but open to anything. comfort is king (BA econ to USA is horrible!) (8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? 90% work on econ class, usually can get econ+ if available for nominal fee (or free with status). for personal, fly econ/econ+ have three scheduled LHR-SFO flights in next 3 months, good time to choose a FFP or maybe stick with UA/BA? current UA membership has 6K mi banked. BA blue membership has 60K mi banked (140 tier pts/19 flight segments towards silver) |
Hmm.. Aegean airways? I've never heard of them. Any alternatives?
