LH for sure no , not worth unless you fly J or F on long haul transcontinental flights once per quarter , but i suggest to ask others cause they know more about it than me

In star alliance its better to have status with the airline you fly most often with, otherwise if you want the basic benefits like lounge , extra luggage , pririty check-in etc.... just get gold from any member and job is done . TK is pretty easy to grab , especially if you often fly in J and you will get more benefits when flying TK than a regular star alliance gold

Best points alliance to use

Hello,
In a few weeks I will be flying United for the first time. Business class DUB-EWR-LAX and returning LAX-YYZ-DUB. Is it worth joining United's mileage programme to get the miles? Not sure how often I will use United in the future. Otherwise I can use the Aer Lingus route to get some Avios. I already have over 100k avios and they would just be added to the pile. What is my best use of the miles?

UA miles don't expire so it wouldn't be a bad thing to do, but a single round trip is not going to get you enough miles for any sort of large scale redemption. If you imagine flying *A in the future, I would say go for it. Additionally, depending on how expensive these flights were, you'd probably quality for Silver with this round trip?

What is your criteria for "best"?
What do you use your ff miles for?
If you join UA ffp could also credit other Star Alliance flights.
An orphan freq flyer account with a few miles is of little value.

Any UA status level requires four flight segments operated by UA. That itinerary does not have them.

Oh my bad, I misread the return

Thanks all, with Lufthansa now going out of my local airport Liverpool the UA points might end up being useful. I'll join their program

(1) What is your home airport? SFO
(2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? PE or Y
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? (<25K, 25k-50k, >50k) ~25k
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? CI Gold
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Lounge access, priority bags
(6) Which routes do you fly most often (US Domestic, Transpacific etc). TPAC
(7) Preferred Airlines, BR, CI, UA
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Pleasure

OZ would have been a good match, but my understanding is that they're heading to SkyTeam soon... What other recommendations are there that could get *G?

That's not going to be easy. 25k Miles in discount eco and 'some' PY? Or is it mostly PY? If it is mostly UA/BR you would be flying check some of the earnings at wheretocredit.com Best you can hope for is essentially 100% miles earned which does not comfortably put you into a SAG range. OZ is on the way out indeed.

Starting All Over with *A

I was previously Thai Airways gold, but due to the requalification requirements being a chore to maintain at my level of travel (I was oftentimes borderline) I decided a few years ago to go all in on Asiana in pursuit of the lifetime *A gold. I did this just after requalifying for *G with TG. I was well on my way with Asiana and then the pandemic happened. Because I took such a long haiatus from flying I am basically back to zero with both airlines (I'm just about to lose my TG gold). Because OZ is about to become SkyTeam, which I already have plat on with DL, it has become a dead end for me. So, who should I start anew with?

I fly a lot of TG domestic, but they're such short flights that accruing 500 miles at a time doesn't add up very fast. I fly longhaul transpac often, usually with EVA Air, Korean or this time around Asiana (ironically). I can see the argument of sticking with TG or EVA, since I fly their metal, but neither are particularly easy to earn or maintain *G with. If I go with Turkish or Agean will I have an easier time reaching and maintaining gold status? I care most about the extra baggage allowance as I am a scuba diver and travel with a lot of gear. Sometimes it really saves the day. Same with priority boarding, my camera gear needs overhead bin space which is scarce if I'm boarding later in the process.

I have an Asiana flight coming up soon and want to direct these BIS miles to the correct new program I plan to go all-in on. Thank you FTers for your collective wisdom in helping me start all over. It's going to suck for awhile yet!

(1) What is your home airport? SEA/LAX/BKK

(2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Y, P and sometimes C
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? finding my new post-pandemic baseline, but previously 30-60K/yr
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? Just being booted out of TG Gold, abandoning OZ lifetime quest
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Excess baggage, priority boarding
(6) Which routes do you fly most often ? Trans-pacific, Thai domestic, Southeast Asia regional
(7) Preferred Airlines: EVA Air, Thai Airways
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Both, and I can chooose my airlines, class of service.

(1) What is your home airport? BRU
(2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? Y, J for long-haul (5 hours+)
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year?25k-50k
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? Eurobonus (SK) silver
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Free lounge access
(6) Which routes do you fly most often BRU-Stockholm (ARN/BMA), Lots within various EU, lots of transfer through FRA, one round trip to Australia (Sydney) per year (J)
(7) Preferred Airlines Lufthansa group, THA/SQ to Australia, (not SK)
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? 50-50 split, can in theory choose but most routes to small EU states aren't served by too many options :)

Switching from SK because there is no chance it isn't bankrupt in the next 5 years, and just moved :)

I was kindly sent here from the general "which FFP to choose" thread. In short, although I am AAdvantage Gold, I am increasingly flying on *A as well, where I currently pick up miles using my old TK account (no status), but I have been unhappy with their limited redemption availability in North America, clunky mechanism for partner redemption, and short expiration period. I am wondering if there is a better option for me. I naturally understand that I will not obtain status on any *A airline.

(1) What is your home airport? ORD
(2) What types of fares do you usually buy ? cheap Y, but not basic economy
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? ~15k
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? No status, TK member
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Given the amount of miles I'm earning on *A, I think the only thing I can count on is redemption. I prefer domestic (North America) redemption
(6) Which routes do you fly most often ORD-YYZ fairly frequently, ORD-Europe maybe 1-2 times a year
(7) Preferred Airlines None
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Probably 50-50 split.

It doesn’t seem like there are many FlyerTalkers willing or able to answer the people seeking advice here anymore. Maybe this thread has run its course and we should allow people to ask for similar advice “out in the wild” again?

- Asiana mileage program refugee seeking a new *A home.

Sounds like you might be a match for UA. Also if you have a UA branded credit card your rdm won't ever expire.

I'd check out TK, SQ, and TG memberships. TK has super easy *gold qualification/maintenance with your regular mileage and if you can fly 80k in one year, your annual average would allow you to sustain being Elite+, tk's highest status tier. Obviously, sq has pps which might be a viable thing for you. TG's highest tier is also solely based on premium travel iirc and could work for you.

It also depends on whose metal you'd like easier access to during award redemption.
