New Booking Classes for First Class RTW?

I had booked a First Class RTW Star Alliance Ticket several months ago for departure on September 29th. The routing is JFK-NRT-SIN-MXP-FRA-JFK. I have been booking RTW flights for many years and thought myself to be quite familiar with the rules.

When I called ANA to issue the ticket this week, they informed me that the required booking classes have changed. First class remains A, but on those flights that do not offer A Class (such as SQ 637 or any flight without a first class), D is no longer the class to book. It varies with the airline, but it now appears to be J for ANA and SQ, and C for LH and TG. Has anyone heard about this?

And by the way, although I had confirmed reservations (and had to waitlist months to get that D Class seat on the SQ's A380), ANA would not honor the booking and could not ticket me without changing my booking class on LH (MXP-FRA) to C and to J on SQ 637. Of course I was waitlisted until SQ's absolute ticketing deadline to get the J seat.

Since C and J are higher than D (on all airlines I know of), this is a great benefit.

Judging from what some *A members crediting for Turkish Airlines, TK D seems to be the lowest business revenue booking class, lower than Z, and TK J is listed as economy

I suspect that this is because you are buying a FRTW, so you would have higher
priority that just D class for the flights where F/A is not offered.

It may also have some bearing on those flights where there is a surcharge for
some flights on a CRTW, but if you have bought a FRTW the surcharge would not apply.

If you were buying a CRTW, I suspect the booking classes remain the same.

And I believe you suspect correctly.

By the way, I just saw that there are revised RTW fare rules eff. 09/16/2010 , which outline all FM flights being disallowed from 11/01/2010 and some strange new rule that you can not book CO's EWR-DEL vv. & EWR-BOM vv. flights (including the respective UA codeshare flights) for "technical reasons". Does anybody know what that is all about?

To further clarify, as someone sent me a PM:

On certain flights ( SQ EWR/LAX-SIN, AC YYZ-HKG, etc) there are surcharges
ranging from $250 -$700 for these flights if booked on a CRTW fare.
But if you fly these routes in C/J on a FRTW fare, the surcharges do not
apply.
