Award availability: is there any magic pattern?

So, I'm going to HKG (from LHR) this December as a Cash+Miles award, and wouldn't mind going via NZ, since NZ business is rather fabulous.

As it is, there's no availability via NZ: so, instead, I'm going via Frankfurt with LH in C class. Which is a bit meh, but there we are.

There are -no- award allocations on NZ at the moment on that route (many days either side, too), which leads me to suspect that either there's a lot of Kiwis on their way home, or NZ simply haven't released their award availability quite yet.

Are there any tricks or patterns to discovering when NZ release their availability?

I really doubt the DC ICC will release that kind of award since it would be rather serious backtracking.

NZ = Air New Zealand, a rather good airline that flies direct from LHR to HKG.

The plane goes from there to Sydney (I think) then through to Auckland.

Have another go, do.

Nope...LHR-LAX-AKL or LHR-HKG-AKL.

For this December? Probably about six months ago.

When in December are you travelling? For mid to late December chances of an award appearing between now and then are almost zero.

Cool. That's the kind of information that's really useful to know. Thanks; I'll stop checking. (Mid to late December, and early January on the return)

When are awards normally released?
