Is flying to Greenland on *A possible anymore? Looking to fly on miles there from Europe.

From North America

I've actually been toying with this idea too, though it may be some time in the future. And from the North American side.

AC is going to fly YOW > YFB. Currently it looks like you can catch charter flights--though probably easier as part of a tour package--on Air Nunavut to Greenland. But if you go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iqaluit...er_information, you will see that there may be scheduled air service between YFB and GOH in the nearish future.

So *A redemption should be possible as far as YFB. I have no idea what Air Greenland (GL) would charge for YFB > GOH on a return ticket.

I think you can get to Reykjavik on SK, but you're then on Air Greenland after that. Not a bad stopping off point, frankly... I like Iceland and it's probably a good transition.

SK used to fly CPH-GSF (Kangerlussuaq, Greenland) until about 6-8 months ago. It might return.

[airplane nerd] The code is actually SFJ [/airplane nerd]

I booked a trip last summer (thanks, BMI!) but had to cancel as something came up. Still peeved about it.

As an aside, Air Greenland are one of the nicest airlines I've flown with, even if you don't earn miles. Kangerlussuaq is a funny little airport though, but in a quaint way.

The route comes and goes, it's been that way for several years. In the 90's SAS even had a lounge at the airport.

SFJ is the airport code of the airport (as mentioned), the Danish name of the airport/town is Sondre Stromfjord btw, which might better explain the airport code.

The second international airport of Greenland is Narssarssuaq (UAK).

Summer of 2007 I flew BWI to SFJ (Kangerlussuaq) direct on a Air Greenland flight operated by ATA. The flight lasted only one summer. Greenland is an absolutely stunning place (so is Iceland but they are very very different). I'd get out of Kangerlussuaq as soon as you can and head to Ilulissat. The Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat is a great hotel. The boat tour to Eqi glacier as well as the hike from town to Ilulissat Icefjord are two of the most beatuiful experiences I have ever had.

It was Zone 3 (North America). Seeing as the only routing was via CPH, it was a very good value...
