FF Question

Hello everyone,

I have a question, I'm going to two different countries this summer for study abroad. However I'm currently OZ Gold equivalent to Star Alliance Silver and I'm 49k away from reaching OZ Diamond(*A G) level. I'm going to be taking flights from Boston-Zurich(Swiss) then JFK-Johannesburg(South Africa). Asiana unfortunately doesn't have flights to these areas from my origin so which airline is the best to take so I can reach the OZ Diamond status fastest? Thanks for your time and input.

Welcome to FT, Jimgotkp!

I don't know the details of OZ' program, but you should check the OZ earning pages to make sure that whatever fare classes you book earn the maximum possible mileage for whatever airlines you're flying. For the destinations you've listed, I would expect LH, LX, and SA to be the airlines you should check out.

Welcome to FT, Jimgotkp! This would actually be a question for the OZ forum.
You can't be 49k miles away from OZ Diamond. You only need 40k in total. So if you have qualified for Gold under the new rules you can only be 20k miles away. Different of course if you have qualified for Gold under the old rules.

Which class of travel are you looking at? Economy? The easiest will be to fly LX BOS-ZRH-JNB which will give you about 19k miles return provided you book a booking class which earns 100% miles.

This will be most important thing: make sure you book the right booking class for this trip. If you want more miles, maybe there are some indirect ways to get there which give you more miles? But again make sure you have the right booking class as some don't earn any miles at all.

Ah alright, well I'm thinking of flying Economy since I plan on staying at each place for a month or so which will make my cost of staying there most expensive. I wish I could fly Business but I can't be a chooser when it comes to money and being supported financially from my parents who aren't doing so well right now either. But thanks for your input!
