In the wake of the recent meltdowns, I think we'll see more of these.

I have never bought these gift cards or any WN gift card. The Costco promo e-mail caught my eyes this morning...

I want to make sure I understand it right before I pull the trigger:

1 - it works like a WN gift card, which works like any form of payment, and there is no expiration
2 - it sounds like once you have it, you can somehow "move" the balance to your Travel Fund?
3 - since Travel Fund no longer expires, there is not the "Gift Card -> Refundable Fare -> Cancel -> Travel Fund with 1 Year Expiration" problem?
4 - when you use whether the Travel Fund or Gift Card, can you use your credit card to pay part of the trip so the travel benefit coverage applies?

Thanks.

To my way of thinking, though I have no experience, it IS a WN gift card.
2 - you can somehow "move" the balance to your Travel Fund?
Yes, using the same steps as with any other WN gift card.
3 - there is not the...1 Year Expiration" problem?
Correct.
4 - you use your credit card to pay part of the trip so the travel benefit coverage applies?
Not an expert on this; might depend on terms of the particular card, so search the InterWebs for answers to questions specifically about the card you want to use for this.

The $430 for $500 offer is back for this weekend. If this turns out to be a monthly deal that would take care of my travel needs and help with my ink card sign up bonuses.

After buying 2 cards each in the March and April sales I'm kind of full-up on GC and TTFs. I'm going to sit out this round.

But I do appreciate the alert. Thanks, nsx and Firewind.

Same here. I'm full on Southwest credits. I'm going to have to pass on this.

The autumn sale should appear mid-August.

How can I get alerted to gift card sales?

Is there a good way to be notified of these sales? I don't frequently check FT.

I've probably bought 10 cards but never for less than $450.

Subscribe to this thread, assuming subsequent notices are posted here and not in a separate thread. Its the third blue oval on the top of this page. Also Costco usually emails members when they do this (along with other "deals").

Finally sprung for the Southwest Gift Cards... 2 cards.

Normally $450 for $500 per card x 2 cards = $900 - $20off for each card ($40 total discount) = $860

Also had a one-time use code for $50 off. = $810 cost to buy today.

From the $810, I will get both 2% back from my Costco Exec membership ($16 off) and 5% back from using my Discover card this quarter ($40 off). So $810 - 16 - 40 = $754 total net cost. For $1000 in Southwest GC's, which I will easily use up in the next 8 months or so.

Not bad at all indeed!

Costco Gift Card last day to buy 7/2??

The Costco website says 7/2 is the last day to buy gift cards at the "regular" price of $449.99 is 7/2. Has anyone seen this before? I'm wondering if a staple of my WN strategy is going away.
