Not to mention the boon it is for CP holders. Then you're talking about $350 with bags for a couple, instead of $1200 for the same trip from a different carrier (with the "creature comforts" really being immaterial until you're booking an even more expensive fare class).

This is the reverse of Thanksgiving Sunday. Instead of zeroing out the WGA buckets and only selling Anytime, Southwest has zeroed out Anytime and sold only WGA. This avoids the appearance of bait and switch. I'll bet the entire fleet was allocated WGA with nothing held back for Anytime (except for a few peak dates), at least once the demand tsunami hit.

Any guesses why WN would have phased release of all fares, not just WGA? I recall seeing weeks of sold out flights yesterday and no longer seeing that today.

Also it's puzzling why KOA is only served by inter island flights. If the intent was to get local traffic from the Big Island rather than vacationers, they could have used ITO. Are KOA-mainland flights planned?

Who in heaven's name is talking about anyone taking off work to spite anyone ?.......They surely would book for family, friends or themselves for future dates or whenever they have a long weekend or vacation time.....And no, I don't feel spited......I can fly non-rev on my own airline or other airlines but trust me, it would not be SWA for any reason or fare. Walmart of the skies indeed......I don't need their silly, childish, Disney experience. Furthermore, been to Hawaii many times, I'm done with that over-crowded, over-priced homeless shelter.
Do YOU honestly think that WN employees don't get time off and that because they have "a business to run" they all just sit at their jobs 24/7 ?? Seriously, you think they wouldn't glom these fares for their friends and relatives and themselves who are more than eager to get a $49 fare? Immediately after it came out I looked at availability for March, April, May +++ and.....every seat (except the $623 fare) was sold out. Ridiculous.

I saw the fares unchanged until 8 AM Pacific Time. That was an hour and a half from the start. I made the mistake of failing to rush my purchase and I had to pay $100 more an hour later.

What you're saying is that employees in a call center, at the stroke of midnight, when staffing is likely optimized (like it is at all times) to take calls from customers, somehow have all the free time in the world on their hands and are somehow logging into southwest.com and booking flights for their peeps. From a staffing perspective, not to mention policy that every single call center in the world follows regarding computer use for personal gain...what you postulate simply makes zero sense.
I do believe you have an ax to grind. <shrugs>

If employees are in a live reservations (Southwest's) system (at work) - not Southwest, com -- they need only to call their friends or relatives (ie., on their break time), discuss the fare and availability that works, get a credit card and book to everyone's heart's delight. Do you really think that Southwest management is going to make an announcement that their employees cannot tell friends or relatives about a new/cheap fare and that they cannot book any of them in the live system? One PNR at a time limits the number of people that can be booked in one reservation anyway. It's not like you can book more than 9 people at once (unlikely) so in that respect they are not doing anything wrong. Nevertheless, multiply that times many employees and it's not hard to see how the inventory will disappear in a few short minutes. They (SWA) dangle five carrots in front of millions of people and then have the audacity to offer a $623 fare as though people are stupid or desperate enough to want to pay that instead to go to Hawaii. Yeah, that is the ax I have to grind with them.....ergo, I don't fly them (unless I desperately need to as a last ditch effort and only while non-revving).
Why was I even looking, you ask ? Believe it or not I had in mind a relative that is making plans for Hawaii and thought I could snag such a fare - of course it was futile.

Okay, sorry, I probably looked at it TWO full hours after it came out but alas, absolutely nothing to be found in any 30 day window.....March, April, May, etc... Low $49 fares on Southwest translate to millions chasing their tails for a lottery they can never win. I can't imagine this conversation....."Oh wow!, honey, here's a fare for $623 instead...let's go for that one'.....THAT. is what I mean by ridiculous.

As I said earlier, it was like buying tickets to a popular concert, except that those sell out much more quickly, requiring you to have clicked within a second or two of the start of the sale. I wish I had anticipated the speed of the sellout.
