737-300 retirements??

I'll be on the evening flight from AUS to EWR late September and it is scheduled to be on a 737-300. I did this back in January and was sans TV/Wifi or as the pilot put it "We're flying across the country as the pioneers did...without WIFI" I know that they are beginning to retire their 300s. How likely is it that they will upgrade my flight to a 700 or 800?

They're mostly staying on until after summer 2017, so it could get replaced, or could go ahead as planned. No way to know now

While most of the 300s received Evolve (increases income), none received wifi (no income benefit).

Retirement has been pushed up due to training and labor issues with the pilots union, but the 300s will likely still be around until late 2017. My best guess is that the OPs chance of his flight being on a 300 three months from now is high.

So I guess the best thing to do is to bite the bullet and change to the morning nonstop and then watch to see if any of the connections later become priced at something I'm willing to pay.

No. Some 300s got upgraded to 143 seats and winglets.

It's all moot now as Classic retirements are accelerated and all will be gone before the MAX enters the fleet.

If the free TV and wifi is really that important to you then yes. But entertainment wise I would just load up my laptop or iPad with movies which is what I always do anyway wifi or not.
